Job Requirements
- 5+ years’ progressive experience in event or venue management, restaurant or catering management, or comparable leadership role in the hospitality, entertainment, or nonprofit sector
- Proven experience recruiting, training, and mentoring diverse front-of-house teams
- Demonstrated expertise planning and executing a broad range of event types, including public programming, catered events, fundraisers, pop-ups, cultural performances, and private parties with strong attention to detail and focus on seamless guest experience
- Experience creating and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for front-of-house operations, guest service, safety, and event execution with consistent adherence
- Financial and administrative acumen including preparing client quotes, tracking event P&L, managing vendor accounts, processing invoices, handling cash/credit transactions, and creating accurate financial reports
- Knowledge of safety, licensing, and compliance regulations, including food and beverage safety (ServSafe), local health codes, accessibility requirements, and third-party bar service coordination
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders including clients, vendors, program participants, community partners, and internal teams
- Commitment to Alchemist CDC’s mission of food equity, sustainability, and workforce development with passion for supporting under-resourced food entrepreneurs and workforce trainees
- Availability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, with physical capacity to navigate busy venue environment standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation

Job Duties
- Oversee all daily operations for Alchemist Events at Empress Tavern, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and professionally maintained environment that complies with all health and safety regulations
- Work collaboratively with Alchemist CDC finance team to prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, as well as processing all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for the venue
- Liaise with Sacramento Crest Theater, Inc. to coordinate event calendars, sharing use of the venue to maximize impact, prevent conflicts, and align marketing efforts
- Prepare detailed event quotes for clients and community partners, incorporating all food, service, rentals, and venue costs as well as bar services (provided by Sacramento Crest Theater, Inc.) and event-specific logistics, ensuring clear communication of all expectations and requirements
- Collaborate with Culinary Manager to maintain all required permits, insurance, and licenses
- manage facility cleanliness and maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with local health, safety, and accessibility regulations
- Serve as primary liaison for clients and community partners hosting events at Empress Tavern – from concept to successful execution – ensuring each event is thoughtfully produced and aligns with Alchemist CDC’s programs, mission, and core values
- Develop and implement hands-on training programs for front-of-house staff and workforce development trainees that build practical skill sets in guest service, event setup and teardown, POS usage, and customer relations
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency across all event setup, service, and teardown processes – creating a professional, guest-centered culture at Empress Tavern and for all events produced by Alchemist Events
- Collaborate with Culinary Manager and Crest Bar Manager to actively integrate Alchemist Kitchen sublessees, Alchemist Farmers’ Market vendors, and other local food businesses into public and private events to feature local talent and foster entrepreneurship
- Develop and schedule regular public programming and community events that highlight local food, culture, and the arts – working with partners like Capital Books, Dreamland Cinema, visual and performing artists, and nonprofit organizations to create a year-round calendar of engaging happenings that reinvigorates Empress Tavern as a dynamic downtown destination
- Coordinate with workforce development program provider to coordinate scheduling, skills development, and other curriculum and activities aimed at providing restaurant and hospitality experience to individuals through a trauma-informed and culturally competent lens
- Supervise all front-of-house event teams during service, ensuring successful execution and prompt resolution of any guest or client concerns
- Cultivate collaborative relationships with local businesses, cultural organizations, nonprofit partners, and community leaders – including Sacramento Downtown Partnership, Visit Sacramento, Sacramento Crest Theater, Capital Books, Dreamland Cinema, and local food justice groups – to co-develop programs and events that draw and celebrate diverse voices and audiences
- Coordinate with Alchemist CDC program managers to feature Farmers’ Market vendors and food entrepreneurs at public and private activations, supporting the local food economy and Alchemist CDC’s goals
- Assist with the creation of marketing and promotional campaigns that highlight Alchemist Events at Empress Tavern’s unique role as a mission-driven community hub – sharing stories of impact and fostering community connection
- Coordinate social media, website, calendar, and other digital marketing needs with marketing consultant
- Support Alchemist CDC’s data and grant reporting needs by gathering event metrics (attendance, financials, client feedback, participant success stories), which contribute to continuous program evaluation and impact reporting
