Job Description
The YMCA of Memphis & Mid-South is a respected nonprofit organization devoted to strengthening the community by focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. With a rich history grounded in Christian principles, the YMCA serves as a beacon for families and individuals seeking quality community programs that foster personal growth, health, and social connections. As one of the most trusted community institutions, the YMCA operates multiple programs for different age groups and demographics, providing a safe and nurturing environment for all participants. Their mission is to provide support and opportunities that help children, youth, adults, and families reach their full potential.
This particular role is a part-time Site Director position within the School Age Services program, which specifically manages before and after school care for children at various school sites. The Site Director will oversee a small to medium-sized before and after school site, typically serving between 20 and 99 children, though the daily maximum is 20 children as permitted by the Department of Human Services (DHS). The role involves comprehensive planning and implementation of daily activities and lesson plans consistent with YMCA and DHS policies and standards. The Site Director will supervise program staff, ensuring quality care and programming that supports the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development. A key aspect of the job is the creation of a structured yet engaging environment that aligns with YMCA's mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
The Site Director will maintain compliance with all licensing and state regulations, conduct licensing inspections, and support recordkeeping and administrative duties including managing attendance rosters and maintaining child and staff files. Coordination with school administrators, teachers, and parents forms a significant part of this leadership role to maximize program effectiveness and maintain clear communication that meets DHS mandates. The position requires someone with strong interpersonal skills to nurture positive relationships across the school community and ensure the welfare and safety of all participants. Another important responsibility includes supervising and supporting staff through scheduling, training, and ongoing development to create a cohesive and professional team environment.
Flexible work schedules including split shifts are expected, with hours covering before school care (starting at 6:30 am) and after school care (until 6:30 pm), Monday through Friday. This role is ideal for a committed leader who thrives in a dynamic, community-focused setting and possesses a passion for youth development. Candidates must also be able to complete mandatory trainings and certifications, including CPR, first aid, and DHS-required orientation sessions within specific timeframes. The environment demands physical activity such as lifting up to 40 pounds and adapting to varied conditions, which underlines the hands-on nature of the role.
This role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to the growth and well-being of children in the community, helping shape their experiences in a safe, supportive setting. The YMCA of Memphis & Mid-South values leadership competencies such as mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, personal growth, and behavioral characteristics including being welcoming, nurturing, determined, hopeful, and genuine. If you are passionate about making a positive impact through youth programs and enjoy working in supportive, team-oriented environments, this part-time Site Director role might be the perfect fit for you.
