The role of the Shuttle Driver is essential in the smooth operation of Performance Foodservice's distribution system. This full-time position offers competitive compensation ranging from $60,000 to $70,000 annually with a work schedule from Sunday to Thursday, dispatching at 6 PM. The Shuttle Driver will be responsible for transporting empty trailers to various warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to domicile or shuttle yard locations. They operate tandem trailers, tractor-trailers, and straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. Safety is a top priority, with the driver performing thorough inspections and ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. Maintaining professional communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers is crucial to this role, as is the ability to work collaboratively as a team member within the department and broader organization.

Responsibilities include conducting required safety checks before and after trips, inspecting equipment, reporting safety and repair issues, securing freight properly, delivering trailers according to scheduled routes, executing safe hook/unhook procedures, and ensuring that trailers and equipment are parked and secured appropriately. Drivers will also collect damaged goods and customer returns, unload equipment and trash from trailers, maintain daily log records in compliance with federal and state regulations, and uphold a clean and organized work environment. Additional duties will be assigned to best serve the company’s operational needs.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year or more commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday - Thursday nights
  • Pass pre-employment drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move product cases/freight ranging from 60 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Report all safety issues and repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available upon dispatch
  • Drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • Perform hook and unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • Park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • Ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to base facility and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload equipment, materials, and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
