The Shuttle Driver position at Cheney Brothers is a critical role within the company's operations, focused on the timely transportation of empty and full trailers between warehouse locations and shuttle yards. This role operates primarily on a night shift from Sunday to Friday, starting at 7:00 PM, with one day off included mid-week. The position offers a competitive yearly salary ranging from $60,000 to $65,000. The driver will be responsible for handling tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks, primarily on intrastate routes, but occasionally on interstate routes as required. A valid CDL A license with a doubles endorsement is mandatory for this role.
In this role, the Shuttle Driver conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring all equipment meets safety standards as per Department of Transportation regulations. Drivers will be expected to perform hook and unhook procedures safely, secure loads properly, manage daily hours of service logbooks, and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers. The ability to perform physical tasks such as hand-lifting and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates is essential, as product cases can weigh between 60 and 90 pounds. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- valid CDL A license with doubles endorsement
- minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
- must be at least 21 years old
- clean driving record for three years
- ability to work night shift schedule Sunday to Friday
- pass pre-employment drug and road tests
- valid and current DOT health card or ability to obtain one
- physical ability to lift and move freight weighing up to 90 pounds
- compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- must be 21 years of age
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- work required 3rd shift schedule, Sunday-Thursday nights
- pass pre-employment drug test
- pass road test
- valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
- report all safety issues and repairs required
- follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available upon dispatch
- drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
