This job opening is for the position of Bakery Associate at ShopRite. The role involves supporting the Bakery Manager in the daily operations of the bakery department by handling a variety of baking and preparation tasks such as mixing dough, baking, decorating pastries, icing, packaging, and filling designated pastry and bread items. This position is essential in ensuring that all bakery goods meet quality and freshness standards and are presented attractively to customers. The associate will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and organization within the bakery department to create a visually appealing and sanitary workspace that complies with company policies and health regulations.

In this role, the Bakery Associate will play a vital part in delivering a memorable and positive customer experience. They will greet customers promptly and courteously, assist with inquiries, prepare trays to meet customer satisfaction, and promote any charitable campaigns or promotions within the bakery section. The associate must adhere to strict QA standards including hand washing and glove usage when handling food, and follow recipes precisely to ensure consistent food quality.

Additional responsibilities include rotating products to maintain freshness, ensuring accurate product signage, receiving deliveries, inventory tracking, reordering supplies, and assisting other departments as needed. Physical demands of the job require the ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50 pounds and to stand for extended periods, often exceeding eight hours per shift. This role requires individuals capable of working in varied temperature settings and handling various food products and cleaning agents safely. Adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations associated with bakery operations, food safety, and workplace safety is mandatory.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment
  • Maintain department sanitation and QA standards including safety, personal hygiene, clean cases and equipment
  • Clean and sanitize all work surfaces, utensils and equipment
  • Keep floor clear of debris and spills
  • Greet all customers and provide prompt, courteous service and assistance
  • Maintain and properly use all department equipment as required
  • Pack out product into display cases
  • Rotate product to ensure freshness
  • Ensure accurate signage for the department
  • Prepare trays to company’s and customer’s satisfaction
  • Perform all duties in accordance with local, state and federal regulations pertaining to bakery operation
  • Dress and groom according to company policy including uniform, name badge and hat or hair restraint requirements
  • Perform duties in accordance with QA hand washing standards and use disposable gloves when handling food
  • Follow recipes to produce food products with specified flavor, texture, clarity, bouquet or color
  • Follow weights and measures guidelines established by federal, state, local and civic standards
  • Set up, operate and tend bakery equipment according to recipes
  • Prepare special order requests as required
  • Track movement of sales on production logs
  • Take complete and accurate inventory of supplies weekly and reorder supplies and ingredients as needed
  • Check prices and be knowledgeable about location of items in store
  • Promote current charitable promotions to customers
  • Stand at work station for duration of assigned shift which may exceed 8 hours
  • Receive deliveries
  • Place reclamation in proper location
  • Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Unload trucks and transport merchandise to bakery
  • Assist in other departments when instructed
  • Perform duties according to company rules, safety requirements and health regulations
  • Follow company’s HAZCOM program for safe chemical use
  • Follow approved procedures for receiving, storage, price marking and restocking products
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products as per company policy
  • Understand and adhere to company shrink guidelines
  • Check refrigeration equipment performance regularly and report failures
  • Utilize and maintain equipment and report problems
  • Complete all required training programs
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance
  • Work overtime as assigned
  • Work cooperatively with others
  • Operate machinery only if 18 years or older
  • Perform other duties as assigned
