Sweetgreen is currently seeking a dedicated Shift Leader to support daily restaurant operations and embody the company’s mission to build healthier communities through fresh, real food. This role is pivotal in maintaining an inclusive and positive work environment where team members feel valued and guests receive exceptional service. Shift Leaders act as on-the-ground managers, stepping into any position as needed during shifts, especially during peak periods or when staffing is limited. They play a crucial role in coordinating tasks, supervising team members, and ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the restaurant.
As a Shift Leader at Sweetgreen, you will be responsible for leading by example in customer service, food safety, and team communication. You will personally handle customer concerns, particularly assisting those with allergies by building orders carefully to prevent cross-contamination. Your role includes multitasking across various duties, from overseeing line operations and managing tech tools to facilitating guest interactions, all while maintaining clear and effective communication with the team. Your keen attention to detail will ensure food quality, order accuracy, adherence to safety protocols, and accurate digital reporting.
Beyond these operational tasks, you will enforce food safety procedures rigorously and ensure the team complies with all restaurant policies, cultivating an environment that is safe for both guests and staff. Emotional regulation is critical, as this role requires staying calm and professional during high-pressure or high-volume situations. Additionally, you will perform any essential duties of the Kitchen Lead, which includes all core Team Member responsibilities. This leadership position demands proven ability to support and mentor employees, promote a positive workplace culture, and confidently make decisions under pressure.
Sweetgreen values candidates with at least one year of leadership or supervisory experience in fast-paced settings such as restaurants, retail, or hospitality. Food Handler or ServSafe certification is preferred but not mandatory. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in the primary language of the work location and the flexibility to work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States.

Job Requirements
- Meet all minimum requirements of the Kitchen Lead role including those of Team Members
- 1+ year of experience in a Shift Leader or Supervisor role
- Experience in fast-paced environments such as restaurant retail or hospitality
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining operational standards
- Ability to speak read write and understand the primary language(s) of the work location
- Must be able to work at least 30 hours per week
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be authorized to work in the United States

Job Duties
- Step into any station at any point in the shift as needed especially during peak hours callouts or understaffed shifts
- Handle first-level customer concerns personally assist customers with allergies and build orders to prevent allergy cross-contamination
- Oversee multiple tasks and systems simultaneously including line operations tech tools and guest interactions
- Use clear verbal communication to delegate tasks problem-solve in real time and align team and customer needs
- Monitor food quality order accuracy safety protocols and digital reporting
- Enforce food safety procedures prevent cross-contamination and maintain allergen awareness
- Ensure team compliance with restaurant policies and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff
