The Shift Leader role at Sweetgreen is a pivotal leadership position within restaurant operations. This role is designed for an individual who can support daily restaurant workflows, lead teams effectively, and foster a positive culture aligned with Sweetgreen’s core values. Shift Leaders actively engage in multiple operational capacities, including stepping into any station during peak hours to ensure smooth and efficient service, managing customer concerns with attentiveness—especially regarding allergies and order accuracy—and maintaining rigorous food safety standards. They are tasked with multitasking under pressure and coordinating team efforts with clear and effective communication. This leadership role not only demands excellent problem-solving skills and emotional regulation during busy or high-stress periods but also calls for overseeing operational compliance including adherence to health and safety policies. Job Requirements
- Meet all minimum requirements of the Kitchen Lead role including those of Team Members
- One or more years experience in a Shift Leader or Supervisor role
- Experience in fast-paced environments such as restaurant retail or hospitality
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining operational standards
- Ability to speak read write and understand the primary language(s) of the work location
- Must be able to work at least 30 hours per week
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to make confident decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication skills fostering positive team culture
- Experience mentoring employees and delivering exceptional guest experiences
- Highly organized and reliable multitasker with scheduling coaching and performance oversight experience
- Food Handler or ServSafe certification preferred
Job Duties
- Step into any station during shift as needed especially during peak hours callouts or understaffed shifts
- Handle first-level customer concerns personally address allergy needs and ensure no cross-contamination
- Oversee multitasking and coordination of line operations tech tools and guest interactions
- Use clear verbal communication to delegate tasks solve problems and align team and customer needs
- Monitor food quality order accuracy safety protocols and digital reporting
- Enforce food safety procedures prevent cross-contamination and maintain allergen awareness
- Ensure team compliance with restaurant policies and maintain a safe environment for guests and staff
