The Shift Leader role at Sweetgreen is a pivotal position that directly influences restaurant operations and guest experiences. As a Shift Leader, you will be entrusted with supporting daily restaurant functions, managing team dynamics, and helping to uphold Sweetgreen’s values on every shift. This leadership role requires a hands-on approach, stepping into various stations as needed, especially during busy periods or when staffing is limited. The Shift Leader serves as the first line of support for customer concerns, including managing allergy-sensitive orders with meticulous attention to detail to prevent cross-contamination. This role demands multitasking across several areas simultaneously, including line operations, technology platforms, and guest communications. Effective verbal communication skills are critical to delegate tasks efficiently, solve problems in real-time, and ensure smooth coordination between team members and customers.
Food safety and adherence to restaurant policies are paramount responsibilities of the Shift Leader, who must maintain strict compliance with health and safety standards. The ability to stay calm under pressure and demonstrate professionalism during high-volume shifts is essential. In addition to executing daily operational duties, Shift Leaders may also perform Kitchen Lead responsibilities, which include coaching team members, overseeing performance, and ensuring overall quality control. Experience in fast-paced environments such as restaurants, retail, or hospitality is highly desired. Candidates with proven leadership capabilities, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for his team’s success will thrive in this role. Possession of Food Handler or ServSafe certification is preferred but not mandatory. Sweetgreen values proactive leaders who foster a positive, inclusive culture and deliver exceptional customer service consistently. Shift Leader positions require working at least 30 hours per week and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and meet the minimum age of 18 years.
