Job Description

Sweetgreen is a modern fast-casual restaurant chain focused on delivering fresh, plant-forward meals with a mission to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food. Established as a leader in the health-conscious food industry, Sweetgreen emphasizes sustainability, inclusivity, and community engagement, fostering a workplace environment that values every team member's contribution. As the brand continues to expand, it remains committed to nurturing talent by offering opportunities for growth both at the restaurant level and within its support center. Sweetgreen promotes diversity and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds and identities, and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

The Shift Leader role at Sweetgreen is a pivotal position responsible for supporting daily restaurant operations and embodying the company's core values. A Shift Leader plays an essential part in maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere where team members and customers alike feel valued and welcome. This leadership position demands strong multitasking abilities, clear communication skills, and the capacity to oversee food safety, operational tasks, and customer service excellence during shifts.

Shift Leaders at Sweetgreen act as frontline mentors and coordinators by stepping into various stations as needed, especially during busy or understaffed periods, ensuring seamless restaurant functioning. They are the first point of contact in addressing customer concerns, providing personal assistance to guests with allergies to prevent cross-contamination, and guaranteeing order accuracy. Their role extends to managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously including line operations, technology tools, and guest engagement. They communicate effectively to delegate tasks, problem-solve on the fly, and align team efforts with customer expectations.

Detail orientation is critical for Shift Leaders, as they monitor food quality, safety protocols, and compliance with digital reporting standards. Enforcement of food safety and allergen awareness procedures is a core duty to maintain high standards within the restaurant. Shift Leaders also ensure that all team members adhere to company policies and create a safe environment for both staff and guests. High-pressure situations require Shift Leaders to maintain professionalism and emotional control to effectively lead by example.

In addition to their leadership responsibilities, Shift Leaders carry out kitchen lead duties, including all essential functions performed by team members. Candidates with proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to mentor and motivate employees excel in this role. Food Handler or ServSafe certification is preferred.

This position typically requires a commitment of at least 30 hours per week and offers competitive wages with potential raises for skill development. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision plans for both part-time and full-time team members, paid vacation and wellness time, parental leave, a 401k plan, free healthy meals during shifts, access to the Sweetgreen swag marketplace, and more, providing a comprehensive package that supports employee well-being and growth.
