Aquatech is currently seeking a full-time Laboratory and Treatability Technician to join its team at the Tampa, FL location. This non-exempt position plays a crucial role in supporting the company’s engineering operations and customer service by conducting specialized laboratory tests and evaluations related to industrial wastewater characterization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial water treatment laboratory operations and be skilled in preparing and analyzing samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and performing a range of chemical and physical tests vital for water treatment processes. This role demands a high level of precision, attention to detail, and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the team environment.
The Laboratory and Treatability Technician will be responsible for developing and executing operating procedures for various water and wastewater treatment tests, including jar testing for chemical dosing, Silt Density Index measurements, pilot-scale evaluations, and column and batch testing of treatment media such as ion exchange resins and activated alumina. Responsibilities also include operating and maintaining small-scale laboratory equipment, preparing reagents, performing chemical analyses for parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, and total suspended solids, among others. The technician will collect and analyze operational data, manage laboratory inventory, maintain calibration and safety documentation, and ensure the cleanliness and readiness of laboratory instruments and supplies.
This position requires a technician with a solid mechanical aptitude, proficiency in standard laboratory instruments like pH and conductivity meters, HACH spectrophotometers, and analytical balances, as well as strong data management and communication skills. The ability to understand detailed lab protocols and safety data sheets is essential. Candidates should possess a degree in Chemistry or a related field, be detail-oriented, non-colorblind, and able to work under minimal supervision. Physical requirements for the job include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, willingness to wear personal protective equipment, and comfort working at heights when necessary. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field
- Experience working in an industrial laboratory
- Proficiency with standard laboratory instruments such as pH and conductivity meters, HACH spectrophotometer, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware
- Mechanical aptitude and technical background
- Experience or training in bench-top wet inorganic chemistry analytical procedures
- Detail oriented and precise in solution preparation, measuring, data handling, and instrument operation
- Ability to understand and follow detailed lab procedures and safety data sheets
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and handle chemical data
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Non-colorblind
Job Duties
- Developing operating procedures and performing tests for water and wastewater treatment operations such as jar tests, silt density index, bench and pilot scale evaluations, column and batch testing for ion exchange resins and filtration systems
- Collecting data by measuring and recording operating conditions including pumping rates, pH, ORP, temperature, and pressure
- Operating and performing light maintenance on small-scale equipment like pumps, heaters, and mixers
- Preparing samples and reagents for laboratory analyses
- Conducting various laboratory chemical and physical tests including pH, dissolved oxygen, color, oxidation reduction potential, alkalinity, hardness, total suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon, turbidity, phosphorus, nitrogen compounds, and combustion ion chromatography
- Pulling samples for third-party laboratory analysis
- Maintaining reagents, laboratory inventory, calibration records, and SDS documentation
- Managing and communicating laboratory data
- Maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and operating areas
