Job Description

BH is a people-first multifamily owner and operator that has evolved from a small startup into one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the United States. Established in 1993, BH is widely recognized for its unwavering commitment to ethical business practices and its investment in its team members. The company currently manages over 100,000 multifamily housing units and employs more than 2,800 people nationwide. BH prides itself on owning its processes in-house and has been lauded by Fortune Magazine as one of the "Best Workplaces for Women," "Best Workplaces for Millennials," and "Best Workplaces for Diversity." This recognition is a testament to BH's dedication to fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and innovative workplace culture.

BH prides itself on innovation, a spirited can-do attitude, and constant improvement, all aimed at constructing smarter ways to live, invest, manage, and grow within the multifamily housing industry. The company values its people and culture, emphasizing an environment that encourages bold thinking, attention to detail, and a positive attitude without taking itself too seriously. BH's approach includes setting ambitious goals, owning up to mistakes, and transforming challenges into opportunities. This culture of resilience and growth demonstrates BH's readiness to embrace future challenges and opportunities with enthusiasm.

The role of Service Technician at BH is a vital one, embedded deeply in the company’s commitment to excellence in property management and resident satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Community Manager, the Service Technician plays a pivotal role in supporting the upkeep and maintenance of the property’s physical assets. The Service Technician is responsible for general maintenance repairs, apartment make-readies, preventive maintenance, and assisting with construction or rehabilitation projects. These duties ensure that property units remain functional, safe, and presentable for current and prospective residents. A strong commitment to customer service underscores this position, as the technician acts as a frontline representative of BH, interacting with both internal teams and residents in a professional and courteous manner.

In addition to hands-on maintenance work, the role involves using industry-specific technology to prioritize and respond to service requests, maintaining an inventory of repair supplies, and ensuring preventive maintenance programs are followed and documented according to BH’s standards. The Service Technician also assists with identifying hazardous conditions and reporting them promptly to the Community Manager and Service Manager to maintain a safe living environment for residents. This role requires someone who can work independently with minimal supervision, consistently prioritizing tasks while managing multiple ongoing responsibilities.

The Service Technician must also support administrative and operational functions such as posting community notices, coordinating apartment make-ready schedules, securing tools, and occasionally overseeing maintenance operations in the absence of the Service Manager. Sharing on-call responsibilities with the maintenance team, including responding to emergencies during inclement weather, highlights the role’s crucial function in ensuring resident needs are met promptly and effectively.

Physical demands for this role include lifting up to 50 pounds, performing various manual tasks involving a full range of motion, and working in diverse weather conditions. The position requires valid certifications including EPA Core and certifications for appliance and HVAC repair. Ideal candidates possess at least three years of progressive maintenance and safety experience and demonstrate intermediate proficiency with computer technology related to their work.

BH offers a full-time, onsite opportunity with a Monday through Friday work schedule that may require overtime and on-call duties. The company embraces diversity and inclusion, fostering an environment where all voices are heard and respected. Joining BH means becoming part of a forward-thinking culture that values innovation, integrity, and continuous improvement in the multifamily property management industry.
