Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must successfully pass basic computer literacy and keyboarding test
  • Must successfully pass cash handling skills test
  • Must pass customer service assessment test
  • Experience in using multi-line telephones
  • Recent customer service experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet performance standards
  • Cash handling or equivalent experience
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work rotating weekends (for Optical Department)
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of basic computer literacy and keyboarding proficiency tests
  • Passing score on cash handling skills assessment
  • Passing score on customer service assessment
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in using multi-line telephones
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures preferred
  • Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente computer systems preferred
  • Experience in cashiering or equivalent financial transaction handling preferred
  • Ability to engage effectively with internal and external customers
  • Willingness to work rotating weekends (for Optical Department)
  • Experience in front-line service industry preferred (for Optical Department).

Job Duties

  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, principles of responsibility and applicable state, federal and local laws
  • Greets members/patients and provides reception services, directs and assists members in navigating the medical center
  • Provides coordination of services addressing member needs related to benefits, finance, and other services using available technology
  • Registers patients, verifies insurance coverage, and assists with use of electronic devices and KP interactive technologies
  • Provides patient information to family members following confidentiality guidelines
  • Schedules member and non-member appointments and follow-ups via multiple communication channels
  • Verifies benefits, updates patient demographics, and notifies members of applicable costs
  • Directs patients to waiting areas, schedules follow-ups, tests, and procedures
  • Answers calls, relays messages, distributes questionnaires and medical forms, and completes reports
  • Performs clerical duties like direct booking and copying in support of clinic goals
  • Provides telephone reception by screening calls, taking messages, and giving procedural information
  • Assists in orienting new employees and maintains courteous relations with patients and staff
  • Follows cash handling policies, collects appropriate payments, documents transactions, balances cash drawer, and secures revenue deposits
  • Coordinates eyewear delivery and manages optical order logistics (for Optical Services)
  • Explains proper specimen collection, rejects unsatisfactory specimens, maintains lab logs, accessions lab requests, and handles specimen pre-analytical processing (for Laboratory)
  • Models and supports compliance with confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
  • Performs other duties as required.
