Job Description
Lehrhaus is an award-winning Jewish tavern and house of learning located in Boston, known for its exceptional and innovative approach to hospitality. As a vibrant and dynamic establishment, Lehrhaus combines a top-tier dining and drinking experience with an educational and cultural mission. It offers guests creative culinary and cocktail creations inspired by flavors from the Jewish world, while also providing access to books, texts, and classes on diverse Jewish topics ranging from punk rock history to queer Torah. This modern and progressive space welcomes people of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in Jewish culture through food, drink, literature, poetry, and lively conversation. Named one of the 50 best new restaurants in the United States in 2023, Lehrhaus stands out as a unique and highly regarded player in the Boston restaurant scene, blending traditional tavern hospitality with innovative programming and community engagement.
The Front of House team at Lehrhaus plays a critical role in maintaining the establishment's warm and inclusive atmosphere. All front of house staff members are expected to be versatile bartenders who share various responsibilities including bartending, serving, and food-running. This multi-faceted role encourages active guest interaction and storytelling, promoting a hospitality experience that is both engaging and streamlined for customers and staff alike. Lehrhaus is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the front of house team, working between 4 to 5 shifts a week with opportunities for additional shifts during private events or team coverage. Candidates should be passionate about hospitality, possess strong work ethics, and have at least one year of restaurant experience. Bartending experience is preferred but not mandatory, as Lehrhaus is also committed to training individuals who are eager to develop their skills and progress in their careers. The role requires availability on Sundays and offers competitive compensation, including a base wage of $9 per hour plus tips, with anticipated earnings ranging from $30 to $45 per hour. Lehrhaus fosters a collaborative and sustainable work environment as a non-profit that prioritizes inclusion and gentler practices within the restaurant industry, making it an ideal workplace for those who value meaningful work in hospitality with manageable hours and great benefits.
