The role of Server Upgrade & Maintenance Support Specialist at Bayer is a crucial position within the Bayer Customer Response Squad. This role is designed for a technically skilled professional responsible for executing software upgrades on servers, performing routine server and software maintenance, managing data migration projects, and resolving server-related issues across a wide suite of Bayer products. The position supports both current and future technologies, requiring a blend of hands-on technical skills and strategic process improvement capabilities. The specialist performs high-level technical troubleshooting for the technical assistance center team, contributing to operational success by ensuring that server environments function optimally and securely. Additionally, the role involves developing and communicating new procedures that align with industry compliance, regulatory requirements, and customer standards, enhancing the overall quality and reliability of Bayer's technology platforms.

This position calls for a detail-oriented individual who is capable of accurately recording daily activities, managing customer complaints effectively, and driving customer success through continuous process improvements. The specialist conducts software and operating system upgrades remotely, verifies server configurations, performs pre- and post-upgrade checks, and applies preventative maintenance standards such as DICOM and HL7 protocols to maximize system reliability. Furthermore, the role supports automation efforts by creating and testing scripts that streamline routine tasks, ultimately sustaining data integrity and platform quality.

An important aspect of this role is strong collaboration with various departments including engineering, research and development, cybersecurity, sales, and operational excellence teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and teamwork. The Server Upgrade & Maintenance Support Specialist also mentors new team members to build technical competencies within the group. This position is residence-based in the USA, with a salary range between $96,800 and $145,200 annually, complemented by comprehensive benefits including health care, vision, dental, retirement plans, paid time off, and more. Limited domestic and international travel may be required. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant technical support experience or degree in engineering, electronics, IT, computer science or related fields
  • Proven experience with healthcare IT systems including Microsoft and Linux environments
  • Knowledge of interoperability standards DICOM and HL7
  • Understanding of radiology workflows and clinical needs
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy laws
  • Ability to troubleshoot networking and integration issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in technical documentation and knowledge base creation
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Capable of mentoring and coaching team members

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 10 years of applicable technical support experience
  • Associate's degree in related fields with 5 years of applicable experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related fields with 2 years of applicable experience
  • Technical experience supporting enterprise healthcare IT systems including Microsoft and Linux platforms
  • Knowledge of PACS/RIS environments and cloud infrastructure solutions
  • Working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as DICOM, HL7, and web services
  • Strong understanding of radiology clinical workflows
  • Knowledge of privacy laws, cybersecurity, and networking troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with radiology operational needs and modalities
  • Functional understanding of core radiology systems including RIS/HIS and integration engines
  • Effective communication skills with customers at various technical levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant productivity tools
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally if required

Job Duties

  • Accurately record and detail daily activities while ensuring timely submission of customer complaints
  • Review and update procedures to drive customer success
  • Perform and troubleshoot remote software upgrades and assist with remote operating system upgrades and server migrations
  • Verify and update server configurations and conduct pre- and post-upgrade checks to ensure optimal performance
  • Support routine maintenance tasks including validating software and operating systems, confirming adequate server resources, and applying DICOM and HL7 preventative maintenance procedures
  • Provide level 3 troubleshooting and build customer OVF files
  • Manage configuration of customer settings to meet specific requirements and test new customer interfaces
  • Create and test scripts to automate common tasks including troubleshooting and upgrades
  • Sustain quality through continuous testing and focus on data integrity
  • Document and communicate new procedures and processes that meet compliance and regulatory standards
  • Build strong relationships across engineering, R&D, cybersecurity, new product development, sales, and operational teams
  • Coach and mentor new team members in technical capacities
  • Contribute to a motivational, results-oriented team environment fostering teamwork and mutual support
