The Server position at Denny's is a pivotal role that directly impacts guest satisfaction and overall restaurant success. Reporting to both the General Manager and Restaurant Manager, the Server is responsible for greeting guests warmly, seating them appropriately, and providing attentive and courteous service throughout their visit. The role demands a proactive approach to customer care, including taking and delivering accurate orders, suggestively selling menu items to enhance the guest check average, and managing payment transactions following safe cash handling policies. Servers also assist with maintaining a clean and organized dining area, pre-bussing and clearing tables efficiently, and addressing any guest concerns promptly and professionally.
Beyond routine service tasks, Servers at Denny's must demonstrate strong product knowledge, understanding the menu thoroughly to inform and recommend items confidently. They operate the point of sale system efficiently, prepare certain beverage and appetizer items, and comply with all health and safety regulations pertinent to food handling and service. Physical stamina and mobility are important, as the job requires standing and walking for extended periods, lifting trays and supplies, and being attentive in a fast-paced, bustling environment.

Job Requirements
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must meet state, county, or municipal regulations related to health and food handling
- Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 30 lbs
- Ability to raise a tray weighing up to 25 lbs to shoulder height
- Must be able to stand and walk for 4 to 8 hour shifts
- Must have sufficient mobility for work area operations
- Must be able to hear well in a loud environment
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
- Must be able to pass all required tests and training
- Must meet Denny’s uniform and grooming standards
- Must be dependable and able to follow instructions and learn basic tasks
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in food service or customer service preferred
- Good product and menu knowledge
- Strong communication skills
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Understanding of safe cash handling procedures
- Ability to operate point of sale systems
- Ability to handle guest complaints professionally
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food handling
Job Duties
- Greet guests immediately upon arrival and acknowledge them at departure
- Assist with guests seating using proper arrival order and rotation procedures
- Suggestively sell menu items to achieve guest check average targets
- Accurately enter orders on point of sale system
- Prepare beverage orders and some appetizers, salads, and desserts
- Check prepared orders for completeness and presentation
- Deliver food and beverages timely in accordance with standards
- Attend to guests throughout the dining experience in a prompt and courteous manner
- Pre-buss, clear, clean, and preset tables promptly upon guests departure
- Address complaints and requests promptly and notify supervisor of issues
- Demonstrate safe cash handling procedures and accurately complete transactions
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining room and service area
- Complete all required side-work including deep cleaning assignments
- Provide prompt and courteous service
- Adhere to Denny’s brand standards and policies
