Job Description

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is a premier culinary destination located in the Monterey area, renowned for offering an exceptional dining experience. The restaurant features three distinct dining environments: a full-service dining room, a lively bar and lounge, and an inviting al fresco dining patio. At the heart of Salt Wood is an experiential oyster bar and a central live-fire kitchen that serves as both the culinary and social center of the restaurant. From casual cocktails on the patio to hosting large group parties in multifunctional meeting spaces and private dining rooms, Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette caters to a variety of dining occasions, providing an experience that is truly unique to the region. The establishment is committed to delivering exemplary service by maintaining high standards in culinary excellence and guest satisfaction.

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is affiliated with HHM Hotels, a group known for embracing diversity and equal opportunity in employment. The company proudly operates by principles that promote inclusivity, ensuring a welcoming environment for all employees irrespective of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, or any other protected category by law. This commitment aligns with HHM Hotels’ core beliefs summarized in their philosophy: People Are Our Capability, Hearts That Serve, Only Excellence, Stay Nimble, and Own It.

The role of Server Assistant at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette involves supporting the restaurant’s service team to deliver smooth and efficient hospitality. This position is foundational in guest service, focusing on assisting servers, setting up and clearing tables, and maintaining cleanliness and stock at service stations across all meal periods. A Server Assistant plays a critical role in enhancing guest experience by serving beverages, breads, and butter at the start of meals, ensuring guests feel welcomed from the moment they arrive.

Server Assistants are also responsible for transporting dirty tableware to the dishwashing area and adhering to established sustainability guidelines as part of HHM’s EarthView program. This initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship through responsible practices.

Candidates for this role should expect a dynamic and physically engaging work environment. The schedule may vary and include holidays and weekends, reflecting the needs of the hospitality industry. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing various movements such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Safety is paramount; therefore, Server Assistants are required to follow all safety guidelines, wear protective equipment, and comply with MSDS and OSHA standards.

This position is an excellent entry point for individuals aspiring to build a career in restaurant service. The career progression potential from Server Assistant includes roles such as Food Runner, Restaurant Server, and eventually Restaurant Floor Manager. Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette supports professional growth and development, encouraging employees to take ownership of their roles and excel within the organization. The Server Assistant role offers an opportunity to develop interpersonal skills, gain operational restaurant knowledge, and contribute to a vibrant dining atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression on guests.
