Job Description
The San Francisco Yacht Club, founded in 1869, stands as one of the premier yachting institutions in the United States. Situated in the scenic city of San Francisco, this club is renowned not only for its rich maritime heritage but also for its exceptional yachting facilities that attract members who appreciate both recreational and competitive sailing. The club has cultivated a distinguished reputation for its commitment to excellence, community, and tradition throughout its extensive history. With an emphasis on fostering a vibrant social and sporting environment, the San Francisco Yacht Club serves as a hub where members and their guests come together to enjoy outstanding hospitality, engaging events, and a shared passion for the sea.
This position is for a Server within the San Francisco Yacht Club, reporting directly to the Food & Beverage (F&B) Manager. The role is hourly, with compensation ranging from $16.90 to $18.00 per hour, depending on experience, alongside service charges. Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, paid holidays, healthcare benefits, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions. As a Server, you will play a pivotal role in creating a memorable dining experience for club members and guests by delivering professional, knowledgeable, and warm service in both the dining room and bar areas. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about hospitality and committed to upholding the high standards set by the club.
Servers at the San Francisco Yacht Club are expected to have thorough knowledge of the menu, including recipes and ingredients, and to be adept at timing service for each course to ensure a seamless dining experience. The ability to personalize service by learning members’ names and preferences, combined with an understanding of wines and spirits, is crucial. You will be responsible for setting up side stations, attending pre-shift meetings, greeting and acknowledging members and guests promptly, and providing detailed information about the menu and specials. Additionally, servers ensure the safety and comfort of children, efficiently serve food and drinks, check for satisfaction, handle billing accurately, and maintain cleanliness in service areas.
This position demands physical stamina as it requires standing and walking for extended periods, navigating stairs, and lifting up to 50 pounds. A strong commitment to following all local and state laws, particularly concerning the service of alcoholic beverages, is required, as well as adherence to the club’s policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of comparable server experience and possess excellent communication skills in English. The San Francisco Yacht Club prides itself on equal employment opportunity and fosters an inclusive environment free from discrimination. Serving here means being part of a historic institution dedicated to excellence in yachting and hospitality.
