Job Description
This employer operates within the healthcare and senior living industry, providing specialized dietary and dining services to residents, staff, and guests in a community setting. The company is committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by ensuring they receive nourishing meals that meet dietary standards while offering exceptional customer service. Operating primarily as a dietary department within a long-term care or assisted living facility, they emphasize compliance with health and safety regulations, respectful treatment of residents, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in both front-of-house and kitchen areas.
The role of Server within this dietary department is crucial to the daily dining experience of residents. The Server is responsible for providing attentive, courteous, and personalized table service by taking accurate food and beverage orders, delivering meals and drinks promptly, and ensuring every resident feels valued and respected throughout their meal service. This position requires a balance of excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and adherence to dietary policies including special dietary requirements tailored for the elderly population. Servers are empowered to maintain high standards by rejecting meals that don't meet temperature or presentation criteria, underscoring the commitment to quality.
Beyond meal service, the Server also assists with routine cleaning tasks in the dining and kitchen areas, including bussing tables, sanitizing utensils and workstations, and helping with inventory and stock management. These collective responsibilities ensure a safe, sanitary, and pleasant dining environment for all. The Server is expected to maintain a professional demeanor, understand and apply health and safety rules related to food handling and preparation, and participate actively in maintaining the overall function and reputation of the community's dietary services.
Employment in this position is categorized as non-exempt, reporting directly to the Dietary Director. The job demands physical stamina including long periods of standing and walking, lifting of moderate weights up to 50 pounds, and maintaining attentiveness to the needs of elderly residents who may have specific dietary concerns. Candidates must meet several state-mandated certifications and clearances such as tuberculosis clearance, first aid and CPR certifications, criminal background checks, and hold a valid food handlers or ServSafe certificate. The ability to communicate effectively in English and work cohesively with fellow employees and residents is paramount.
This Server role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a community-oriented environment where sensitivity to residents' dignity, dietary health, and satisfaction is fundamental. The position requires flexibility for occasional evening, weekend, or night shifts, and an openness for on-call duties or occasional travel. The employer provides a supportive, professionally managed environment that prioritizes resident care while fostering employee growth and compliance with all applicable health, safety, and employment laws. This is an ideal position for individuals passionate about senior care, dietary service excellence, and contributing positively to a community setting.
