Job Requirements

  • State-issued food handling and beverage certifications as required
  • Six or more months of related experience in the hospitality industry
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Strong verbal communication skills to speak effectively before guests and groups of co-workers
  • Proficiency in navigating and operating computer and Point of Sale (POS) systems
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

Job Duties

  • Maintain product knowledge to inform guests of daily specials, answer questions about menu items, and make recommendations upon request
  • Adhere to state liquor laws and regulations
  • verify minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods
  • Describe and recommend wine and specialty beverages to guests
  • Take food and beverage orders, enter them into the POS system, and send them to the kitchen
  • Serve food and beverages to guests, preparing and garnishing dishes as required
  • See to each guest's special needs, including any allergies or dietary restrictions
  • Prepare and maintain table setting for courses, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware
  • Assist with running food and beverages, clearing tables, and escorting guests as needed
  • Ensure immediate response is given to guest comments and concerns
  • inform immediate supervisor and apply corrective measures when necessary
  • Manage order times and inform guests and management of any delays in service
  • Maintain revenue by preparing checks that itemize total costs plus sales taxes and collect accurate payments from guests
  • Remove dishes and glassware from tables or counters, and take them to the kitchen for cleaning
  • Clean tables or counters after guests have finished dining as needed
  • Stock service areas with dining supplies such as plates, utensils, glassware, and linens
