The role of Senior Technician at Walt Disney Theater is a pivotal position within Disney Cruise Line’s entertainment operations. This is a shipboard role where the Senior Technician leads the Walt Disney Theater Technical Team, overseeing all technical production elements for theater events, including Broadway and West End-style musical theater productions. Reporting to the Manager of Entertainment Technical, the Senior Technician acts as the key technical leader, ensuring that all shows and productions are executed flawlessly and safely. This role requires significant hands-on leadership, coordination with various entertainment and technical departments, and the ability to manage and maintain sophisticated theater systems and equipment on board.
The Senior Technician is responsible for daily operations of all technical and stage elements within the Walt Disney Theater, including managing the scheduling, maintenance, and performance support for various events such as musicals, variety acts, concerts, and company events. This position demands expertise in theatrical practices and technical operations under sometimes challenging conditions such as heights and exposure to special effects like pyrotechnics, chemical smoke, and fog. The role also includes managing safety responsibilities and emergency productions, which require close partnership with stage management and entertainment leadership.
Candidates for this position should have a minimum of five years of experience in technical theater roles, preferably in musical theater environments, and demonstrated experience leading a technical team. Knowledge of audio-visual projection, automation desks, stunt rigging equipment, and body harnesses is highly preferred. Since this is a shipboard role, the candidate must be willing to live and work on a Disney Cruise ship, comply with strict safety and living regulations, and embrace the multicultural environment onboard.

Job Requirements
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work on board a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship assembly plan
- Willing to uphold general safety management responsibilities as specified in the safety management system
- If applicable, willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciate working and living in a multicultural environment with strict rules and regulations
- Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide documents to obtain this)
- Complete a pre employment medical
- Obtain a criminal background check
- Bring approved work shoes
- Disney Cruise Line is a drug free workplace and all new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts
Job Qualifications
- Minimum five years experience in a technical role within a theatrical operation
- Experience leading a theater technical team regarding daily responsibilities, performance, scheduling, and development
- Expertise with standard theatrical practices in a musical theater environment
- Ability to work at heights with heavy equipment and in environments with second-hand smoke, pyrotechnics, chemical smoke, haze, fog, dry ice, and other special effects
- Experience with audio visual and projection systems, automation desks, stunt rigging equipment, and body harnesses preferred
Job Duties
- Lead the Walt Disney Theater technical team providing performance coaching, recognition, and discipline
- Oversee the daily operation of all Walt Disney Theater technical and stage elements
- Partner with stage manager to perform emergency abbreviated shows
- Collaborate with entertainment leadership teams on emergency shows, load ins/outs, new show installs, cast changeovers, equipment tests, vendor support, movie premieres, company events, and safety responsibilities
- Provide support services for all Walt Disney Theater events including production shows, variety acts, concerts, and activities
- Schedule the Walt Disney Theater technical team
- Set, strike, oversee and run senior show tracks for all Walt Disney Theater shows
- Manage preventative maintenance schedules and routine repairs of Walt Disney Theater technical equipment
- Maintain stock control and associated documentation for show consumables
- Lead department meetings
