The role of Senior Systems Engineer within Target’s Supply Chain division is a vital position focused on optimizing the performance and reliability of the company’s material handling equipment (MHE) at distribution centers and warehouses. This role is critical in ensuring that products reach customers quickly and efficiently, impacting thousands of team members and guests worldwide. The Senior Systems Engineer acts as a technical expert responsible for maintaining high equipment availability through preventive and predictive maintenance, rapid troubleshooting, and quick restoration of equipment in case of failures. They collaborate closely with other engineers and operational partners to improve material flow and system controls, while leading projects involving building automation, continuous improvement, and new equipment installations.

This position demands extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control system aspects of MHE including conveyor systems, sortation, robotics, and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS). The Senior Systems Engineer utilizes diagnostic software and data analysis tools to monitor system health and recommend enhancements to automation processes. Additionally, they play a pivotal role in technical training and developing troubleshooting capabilities of internal technicians, supporting safety standards and ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment.

The role requires a proactive and self-starting approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work efficiently under pressure, and maintain safety compliance in a 24/7 operational environment. Job Qualifications

  • two or four-year degree in electrical or controls engineering or equivalent experience
  • extensive experience with automated conveyor systems and controls
  • skilled in blueprint and schematic reading
  • expertise in industrial electrical systems including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC
  • proficient with HMI interfaces and programming
  • knowledge of industrial controls, electronics, and programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • familiar with National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • experience with work order management and preventive maintenance procedures

Job Duties

  • ensure high equipment availability through preventive and predictive maintenance
