Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major
  • 2 years experience in culinary, food and beverage, or related professional area
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage kitchen operations and staff
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work full time
  • Must be able to work on-site at JW Marriott Essex House New York

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 4 years of experience in culinary or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related field with 2 years of experience in culinary or related professional area
  • Proven leadership capabilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage kitchen operations and team development effectively
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation practices
  • Experience in budget management and meeting financial goals
  • Familiarity with payroll, scheduling, and human resource practices in a culinary environment

Job Duties

  • Lead and supervise daily kitchen operations including managing and coordinating cooks and kitchen workers
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with food handling, sanitation, and safety standards
  • Assist Executive Chef with all kitchen operational responsibilities
  • Manage purchasing, receiving and food storage standards
  • Prepare and cook food items, ensuring high quality and presentation
  • Oversee employee scheduling, payroll administration, and performance management
  • Foster a positive work environment encouraging feedback, trust, and recognition among team members
