Job Description
Starbucks Coffee Company is a globally recognized leader in the coffeehouse industry, renowned for its commitment to quality, innovation, and creating a unique community experience. Since its founding, Starbucks has strived to distinguish itself not just as a coffee retailer but as a company that nurtures connection, leadership, and an inclusive culture. Today, Starbucks is not only a premier purveyor of specialty coffee but also a pioneer in ethical sourcing and sustainability practices that respect the environment and the growers behind its globally beloved products. As a globally operating company, Starbucks continues to expand its influence into various beverage categories beyond coffee, including the dynamic field of global teas and botanicals, reflecting a strong dedication to diversity in taste and sustainability in sourcing.
The role of Senior Sourcing Manager for Global Tea at Starbucks is a strategic, impactful position within the organization, directly involved in shaping the sourcing operations of one of the most critical components of Starbucks' beverage portfolio. This role focuses on overseeing and optimizing the end-to-end sourcing strategy for tea and botanicals on a global scale, which is a multi-billion dollar enterprise within the company. The senior sourcing manager leads efforts to ensure supply security, maintain high quality standards, drive sustainability initiatives, and create value through prudent cost management and innovative sourcing solutions.
This leadership position is essential for building and maintaining long-term supplier relationships and partnerships with growers and suppliers worldwide. It requires a keen understanding of market dynamics, origin insights, and a strategic mindset to align sourcing operations with broader goals of Starbucks, including responsible and ethical sourcing. The role demands hands-on contract negotiation capabilities and a robust approach to managing supply risks and logistics challenges, ensuring that the global tea portfolio continues to grow both in market share and in consumer trust.
Additionally, the role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams such as product development, quality assurance, and sustainability to embed sourcing strategy into product innovation and responsible business practices. Being part of the Starbucks partner community means benefiting from a comprehensive employee benefits program designed to support well-being, financial security, and personal development, including medical coverage, paid leave, education assistance, and retirement plans.
Starbucks invites passionate professionals who have a background in global commodity sourcing, particularly in tea, botanicals, or similar agricultural sectors, to join its team. The role suits individuals who thrive in dynamic, global contexts, possess strong negotiation and analytical skills, and are driven by a commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices. Work-life balance is supported with onsite work as well as paid vacation and holidays, ensuring partners are fully supported. At Starbucks, the aim is to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time. Join Starbucks and help lead its global tea sourcing strategy to new heights, driving both business growth and positive social impact.
