Job Requirements
- Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent
- Minimum of three years experience as a paramedic in a 911 system
- Valid California Driver's License
- Valid California Paramedic License
- Ability to maintain all required certifications including ACLS, CPR, PALS, and PHTLS
- Ability to read and follow electronic and incident maps
- Ability to work effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to safely transport patients
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with public and coworkers
- Physically able to handle demanding tasks including lifting up to 100 pounds, exposure to hazardous materials, and work outdoors in various weather conditions
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Minimum of three years experience as a paramedic in a 911 system
- Teaching experience with instructor certifications of AHA and PHTLS or ability to obtain within one year of appointment
- Accredited paramedic in Contra Costa County or ability to obtain accreditation within six months of appointment
- Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver's License
- Possession of a valid State of California Paramedic License at time of application and ability to maintain license
- Possession and maintenance of ACLS certification
- Current Health Care Provider CPR certification
- Current PALS and PHTLS certifications
- Knowledge of federal, state, county, local, and district regulations, practices, and procedures
- Knowledge of emergency ambulance and transportation procedures, including safety practices
- Knowledge of infectious disease control and emergency radio communication procedures
- Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation
- Knowledge of emergency vehicle operation and maintenance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook
- Effective communication skills in English both oral and written
Job Duties
- Assist crew in maintaining vehicle readiness in accordance with MOFD policies and procedures
- Ensure appropriate level of cleanliness for all EMS supplies stocked on the member's assigned ambulance
- Ensure all EMS supplies and equipment is maintained in a ready status such that response is never delayed
- Perform daily narcotic checks according to MOFD policies
- Respond to EMS calls across the district
- Operate MOFD EMS vehicles in accordance with all California Vehicle Codes and District regulations
- On scene provide appropriate level of BLS and ALS assessments and interventions
- Provide care according to standards established by Contra Costa LEMSA policies and protocols
- Provide care and transport to patients experiencing medical emergencies according to Contra Costa LEMSA policy manual
- Provide appropriate care and documentation for individuals refusing care or transport
- Follow incident commanders' direction during large-scale responses such as structure or wildland fires
- Perform station duties as assigned
- Participate in drills and other training
- Maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications including AHA ACLS, PALS, or PHTLS instructor card(s)
- Assist in district-wide BLS certification
- Complete reports in a timely manner
- Assist Ambulance Supervisor in CQI, narcotics control and infection control functions
- Participate in community outreach activities
- Assist in annual district-wide AHA and PHTLS certification
- Perform other duties as assigned
