Job Description

Equity Residential is a leading real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on acquiring, developing, and managing residential properties in vibrant urban communities across the United States. Renowned for its commitment to creating thriving communities, Equity Residential fosters a culture rooted in values such as Diversity, Sustainability, and Total Wellbeing. The company emphasizes authenticity, collaboration, and a productive work environment where employees can grow and contribute meaningfully to the company’s success. As a major player in the residential property sector, Equity Residential continually invests in its communities by maintaining high standards of quality, experience, and resident satisfaction. Its dedication to Total Wellbeing is reflected in comprehensive benefits that cover physical, social, financial, community, and career wellbeing aspects, ensuring that employees feel supported both in and out of work.

The Senior Maintenance Technician role at Equity Residential is integral to maintaining the quality of living spaces and the overall community experience for residents. This hands-on position requires a versatile technician ready to address a range of maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, appliance repairs, and general upkeep of community grounds. In addition to responding promptly to resident service requests, the technician prepares apartments to be market-ready, ensuring excellence in presentation and operational functionality. A vital part of this role also involves conducting regular community inspections to identify necessary repairs or replacements, thereby maintaining the property’s value and resident satisfaction.

This position offers an hourly wage range of $28.01 to $34.23, with eligibility for overtime pay and performance incentives. Compensation is commensurate with job-related skills, experience, and qualifications. The Senior Maintenance Technician may, at times, assume managerial responsibilities, particularly in the absence of the Service Manager, which includes overseeing service requests and delegating tasks to maintain efficient operations. Equity Residential values proactive individuals who align with its corporate ethos such as "Question Authority," "Walk the Talk," and "Do the Right Thing," creating a workplace that encourages problem-solving, ethical conduct, and shared success.

The work schedule for this role is flexible, often requiring weekend availability and the capability to respond to after-hours emergencies, highlighting the company’s commitment to providing continual resident support. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required for roles that involve operating motorized vehicles such as cars or golf carts used within the community. Beyond technical skills, effective communication in English and computer literacy are essential for coordinating with residents, team members, and management.

Equity Residential provides a modern and supportive work environment enhanced by its Total Wellbeing program, which includes health benefits such as medical, dental, and vision care, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, new parent benefits, a 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, rent discounts, paid community service hours, and leadership development opportunities. This comprehensive benefits package demonstrates Equity Residential’s investment in its employees’ health, social, financial, community involvement, and career advancement. The company also prioritizes adherence to federal and state apartment housing laws, ensuring compliance and upholding high ethical standards.

Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and hands-on maintenance experience in plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and appliances will find this role rewarding and challenging, with opportunities to grow within Equity Residential. The company also prefers candidates who can obtain EPA Section 608 Type I and Type II or Universal certification within 90 days of hire if necessary, reinforcing the importance of environmental safety and regulatory compliance. While not required, trade school certification, managerial experience, and background in property management, hospitality, or retail are considered bonuses that could help a candidate stand out. Equity Residential is committed to fair hiring practices and welcomes candidates with arrest or conviction records to apply under relevant fair chance employment laws.
