Job Description

Mortenson is a leading construction and real estate development company recognized for its expertise in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) across diverse market sectors such as sports, renewable energy, data centers, healthcare, and more. As a top builder and developer, Mortenson is committed to creating built environments that have a lasting positive impact on communities, delivering projects that redefine what is possible within the construction industry. The company’s core philosophy revolves around safety, quality, teamwork, and innovation, making it a highly respected name in the construction sector with a long-standing reputation for excellence and project success.

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Safety Manager to join their team. This role is pivotal in managing and leading Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety Program across multiple project teams and construction sites. The Senior Safety Manager will provide leadership, direction, and support to ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained on site. This position primarily operates within the construction environment and requires a strong background in construction safety management, including experience with large, complex projects involving numerous subcontractors and safety professionals.

The Senior Safety Manager’s responsibilities include planning, leading, and managing the implementation of safety program initiatives throughout the operating group. They will lead collaboration efforts with trade partners and joint-venture partners to harmonize safety programs and procedures. This role demands conducting and reviewing site hazard assessments during planning and construction phases, developing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs, and creating specific safety orientation content tailored to project groups. Additionally, the manager oversees documentation and analysis of safety, injury, and hazard statistics, as well as OSHA-related reporting to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

A vital aspect of the role is active monitoring of onsite construction activities through audits and observations, identifying deficiencies, delivering corrective actions, and leading thorough incident investigations with coaching provided to safety staff. Mentoring and professional development opportunities for team members are integral responsibilities as well, ensuring the safety staff is equipped to maintain and improve safety standards. The position requires up-to-date knowledge of construction safety standards, OSHA regulations, ANSI requirements, and various other industry protocols.

The base pay for this role ranges from $113,500 to $170,300 annually, with actual salary potentially higher depending on location (with adjustments for offices in Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; and Washington, D.C.), experience, skills, and internal equity considerations. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan and is full-time. Notably, Mortenson does not offer visa sponsorship for this position, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

By joining Mortenson as a Senior Safety Manager, individuals will become part of a dynamic team dedicated to building safe work environments that not only comply with regulatory requirements but exceed industry best practices. The role offers the opportunity to influence safety culture at a regional or market level, working collaboratively with multiple project teams and partners to achieve zero injury outcomes. Mortenson supports its employees with a comprehensive benefits package and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The company strongly supports equal employment opportunities, encouraging individuals from all backgrounds to apply and bring their unique perspectives to the team.
