Job Description
Eataly is the world’s largest artisanal Italian food and beverage marketplace, renowned for its authentic approach to Italian cuisine and culture. Unlike typical chains, each Eataly location is uniquely crafted with its own character and theme, yet all share the same goal of delivering high-quality experiences to their guests. Visitors to Eataly can enjoy a diverse range of options including restaurants, cafés, and to-go counters featuring genuine Italian foods, as well as shop a curated selection of premium Italian, local, and homemade products. Moreover, Eataly offers educational experiences through classes that enhance guests' understanding and appreciation of Italian gastronomic traditions and products, facilitated by their knowledgeable team.
The Senior Host role at Eataly represents a vital position within the restaurant environment, acting as the first and last point of contact for guests. This professional is primarily responsible for greeting visitors warmly, efficiently managing seating arrangements, and maintaining an overall smooth flow during service hours. Reporting directly to the Restaurant Floor Manager, the Senior Host plays a crucial role in upholding the high standards of hospitality that Eataly is known for. The position involves training and mentoring new hosts to ensure consistency in excellence regarding guest interactions, use of restaurant management systems like OpenTable, and maintaining the overall ambiance of the dining space.
Additional responsibilities for the Senior Host include managing reservations, handling guest communications, coordinating with private event teams, and supporting the dining room’s visual appeal. This role requires close collaboration with restaurant management to communicate important guest details such as VIPs or special occasions and to effectively respond to guest inquiries or concerns. The Senior Host also assists with operational tasks like menu inventory control, organizing celebratory cards for guests, and supporting other front-of-house staff during busy service periods. With a work schedule typically spanning Wednesday to Sunday from 12 PM to 8 PM, the Senior Host helps balance walk-in traffic with reservation needs to optimize customer satisfaction and shift flow.
Compensation for this position ranges from $20 to $22 per hour plus pooled tips, reflecting the value Eataly places on experienced hospitality professionals who are passionate about delivering authentic Italian dining experiences. With a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, parental leave, a 401K or RRSP with a match, bonus programs, daily free family meals, discounts on Eataly products, and opportunities to learn more about Italian cuisine, this role offers both professional growth and personal enrichment opportunities within a vibrant, guest-focused environment.
