Job Description

As a Level 1 Trauma center and tertiary care destination, the center caters to a diverse patient population including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is notable for its expansive services including surgical, oncological, cardiovascular, neuroscience, orthopedic, pediatric, and women and infant services, as well as dedicated behavioral health units for both adults and children. The hospital is also expanding with a new tower planned for 2026, which will add medical/surgical beds and enhance services for women and infants, including increased NICU capacity.

This opportunity is for a Senior Registered Dietitian (RD) position within the Culinary & Nutrition department. This full-time role offers a choice between four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts, beginning between 6:30 am and 8:00 am. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible applicants who commit to 12 months of service. The Senior RD will provide leadership in specialty clinical nutrition areas, setting practice standards and mentoring colleagues. The position involves managing a complex patient caseload with focus on comprehensive nutritional assessments, including nutrition-focused physical exams, and developing, implementing, and monitoring appropriate nutrition care plans tailored to the patients' needs. The Senior RD will provide patient and family education, develop nutritional standards, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care policies and quality improvement activities. The candidate will have the chance to work in a high-acuity, diverse setting, interacting with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff to ensure the delivery of evidence-based nutritional care. This role demands strong clinical expertise and leadership skills, especially in specialized areas of nutrition, and will be critical in advancing Banner Health's mission of delivering exceptional healthcare service.

Job Requirements

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or equivalent coursework
  • Registered Dietitian credential as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Current registration and licensure as required by the state
  • Minimum three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area
  • Ability to function independently and prioritize patient caseload
  • Documentation of certification and expertise in nutrition specialty areas
  • Commitment to a drug-free work environment
  • Possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for applicable behavioral health settings
  • Ability to sign Arizona Criminal History Affidavit

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or equivalent coursework
  • Registered Dietitian credential per Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Current registration and licensure as required by state law
  • Three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area
  • Certification in specialty nutrition areas such as CNSC, CCTD, CDCES, or other recognized certifications
  • Ability to function independently and lead nutrition care teams
  • Experience mentoring staff and interns

Job Duties

  • Provides comprehensive nutrition assessment of patients' nutritional needs including nutrition-focused physical exams
  • Demonstrates competency in enteral and parenteral clinical practice protocols
  • Writes orders to initiate and manage nutrition care for assigned patients per protocols
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care plans and communicates with healthcare team
  • Provides nutrition education to patients, families, and healthcare staff
  • Develops and monitors nutrition policies and procedures in specialty area
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and clinical nutrition CQI projects
