Job Description

The City of Brentwood, located in picturesque Eastern Contra Costa County, California, is a pleasant and progressive community home to approximately 61,700 residents. Known for its smog-free valley setting near the Delta waterways, Brentwood offers an excellent quality of life with varied and affordable housing opportunities, top-notch educational institutions including new campuses, and proximity to Los Medanos Community College. With a diverse population, including a significant number of Spanish-speaking citizens, Brentwood embraces inclusivity and community engagement. The City operates as a full-service municipality with a workforce of over 400 full-time and part-time employees, focusing on delivering exceptional public services to its citizens. Its Human Resources Department plays a pivotal role in supporting employees throughout their career lifecycle by fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace culture, emphasizing workforce engagement, development, and recognition.

The City of Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking a Senior Recreation Leader specializing in Special Events to serve as an on-site City representative for externally hosted special events. This part-time, hourly position ranges from $22.65 to $27.53 and requires availability on Saturdays. Though non-benefited, this role is crucial to ensuring that City policies, permit conditions, and special event rules are strictly adhered to at all times during various events held within city limits. Unlike event management roles, the Senior Recreation Leader does not operate or manage events but acts as the authoritative City contact on event days.

The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying that event setups and operations align precisely with approved plans and will address any issues or concerns that arise in real time to maintain compliance and smooth event execution. Basic site support functions, such as emptying City trash receptacles during events, are also part of the responsibilities. This role demands strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to enforce regulations diplomatically.

Ideal candidates will bring a combination of training and experience equivalent to at least a high school diploma or GED, along with two years of customer service experience or comparable work at a Recreation Leader II level with the City of Brentwood. Certification in American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED is mandatory from the time of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.

This position represents an excellent opportunity to engage with the Brentwood community, ensure high standards for safety and compliance during special events, and contribute to the vibrancy and success of public festivities. The recruitment process includes application review, department interview, pre-employment health screenings, fingerprinting, and orientation. Applicants are encouraged to submit complete applications online as resumes alone do not suffice.

Brentwood’s commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and supportive workforce ensures that employees are valued and recognized through an interactive employee engagement and rewards program. This program offers peer-to-peer recognition, milestone celebrations, and various awards, fostering a motivating workplace atmosphere that empowers employees to realize their full potential.
