Job Description
Penske Logistics is a global leader in transportation, warehousing, and freight management solutions, offering state-of-the-art services with a strong commitment to efficiency and customer satisfaction. Operating across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, Penske Logistics is dedicated to helping businesses optimize their supply chains by providing innovative strategies that increase visibility and reduce costs. The company prides itself on its customer-centric approach, leveraging advanced technology and operational expertise to deliver superior logistics services. Penske Logistics is known for fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and employee engagement, making it a compelling place to work for professionals seeking long-term career growth in the logistics and supply chain industry.
The role of Operational Supervisor at Penske Logistics is critical to ensuring the smooth operation of daily logistics activities, including driver deliveries, trailer loading and unloading, cross docking, and customer service. This position provides leadership to both individual contributors and the hourly workforce, ensuring that all tasks align with company service standards and cost objectives. Operating during the Monday to Friday 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm shift with required presence 30 minutes prior to the start of the shift, the Operational Supervisor must exhibit flexibility to accommodate peak seasons, holidays, or short-staffed situations.
As an Operational Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing workforce and equipment scheduling, enforcing performance standards, and making corrective and disciplinary decisions up to the written warning level. Your role will also involve participating in the hiring process and engaging in customer meetings when necessary. You will review truck runs and optimize them based on factors like account locations, volume, costs, and private fleet utilization, aiming to maximize efficiency and service quality. The Operational Supervisor will monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance markers, offering counseling and recognition to associates.
On the operational front, you will supervise logistics operations encompassing customer service, freight handling, dispatch, and documentation procedures. You will evaluate and suggest improvements to work methods to enhance productivity, support new associate training, and provide relief coverage as needed to maintain seamless operations. A thorough understanding of the site’s operating systems is essential to ensure compliance and resolve exceptions effectively.
Financial responsibilities include ensuring adherence to inventory control policies, managing returns and damages, and closely monitoring associates' working hours to reduce overtime and achieve productivity targets. Safety management forms a core part of this role, as you will ensure daily activities comply with location safety strategies, regulatory requirements, and company policies. You will provide training and feedback to associates to promote a safe working environment.
In addition to operational excellence, the role emphasizes growth and customer experience. The Operational Supervisor must understand specific customer goals and demonstrate a commitment to helping customers meet their objectives. Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement is vital to driving operational enhancements.
Fleet and asset management is another key responsibility, requiring the planning of work assignments to optimize the use of equipment and ensuring associates operate machinery safely and efficiently. This position offers an opportunity to lead a dedicated team in a dynamic environment, contribute to the company’s business growth, and enhance supply chain performance. Benefits include a comprehensive package designed to support the health, happiness, and security of associates and their families.
