The Senior Operations Manager role at the Chicago Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a pivotal position designed to lead a team of operations managers to deliver exceptional business results while upholding the Starbucks Reserve Experience. This full-time position is based on-site and requires flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the business needs effectively. The role focuses on developing operational excellence, coaching and managing teams, and driving results across multiple functional areas within the Roastery.

As the Senior Operations Manager, you will play a strategic leadership role that impacts both the immediate Roastery team and the broader Starbucks Reserve portfolio. Your responsibilities include setting operational goals, improving store performance, and elevating partner capabilities. You will cultivate a positive, inclusive culture aligned with Starbucks’ mission and values, model exceptional customer service, and foster collaboration among managers and partners. Your leadership extends to financial oversight where you will manage budgets, control costs, and analyze sales and profitability to optimize business outcomes.

In addition to operational management, this role requires expertise in partner development and team building. You will lead by coaching and mentoring managers and partners to foster a motivated and high-performing team. Encouraging innovation, best practices, and personal growth will be key elements of your leadership style. You will also ensure that all compliance, safety, and regulatory standards are met, including the responsible management of alcohol service in accordance with federal and state laws.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing multi-unit retail, restaurant, large scale restaurant and/or hospitality organizations
  • Experience working across functional business units to develop effective business solutions
  • Experience and proven capability in financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and profit and loss responsibility
  • Experience and proven in effective decision-making and operational problem-solving
  • Ability to increase store sales and profitability through operational improvement
  • Ability to recruit, assess, train, develop and promote partners
  • Available to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • 21+ years of age

Job Qualifications

  • Experience managing multi-unit retail, restaurant, large scale restaurant and/or hospitality organizations
  • Experience working across functional business units to develop effective business solutions that align with company and business unit/department objectives
  • Proven capability in financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and profit and loss responsibility
  • Proven in effective decision-making and operational problem-solving to achieve business optimization
  • Ability to increase store sales and profitability through operational improvement
  • Ability to recruit, assess, train, develop and promote partners
  • Available to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • 21+ years of age
  • College degree or experience in a closely related field may substitute for a portion of the required experience
  • Leadership experience in a high volume, full service, and structured restaurant concept
  • Experience with lifestyle based experiential brands, hospitality, big-box and/or specialty retail, restaurants and/or fine dining preferred
  • Experience with building and cultivating relationships with customers, partners, local market leaders and the community

  • Support the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods, and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage
  • Develop strategic and operational plans for the operations managers, manage execution, and deliver results
  • Direct and continuously improve store operations across the total Roastery to achieve company objectives for both operational excellence and business unit results
