The Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering position on the Lodging Booking Platform team represents a critical leadership role within Expedia Group's Book-to-Trip Technology Division. This team is responsible for orchestrating all hotel and vacation rental reservations across Expedia Group's many points of sale around the world. The Lodging Booking Platform is built using modern microservices architecture and is hosted on AWS cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and high performance. The lodging business segment contributes to over 60% of Expedia’s total revenue, highlighting the importance and impact of this platform within the broader organization.
As the Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering for the Lodging Booking Platform team located in Austin, you will serve as the technical and strategic leader guiding multiple software engineering teams. This role requires managing the architecture and delivery of scalable, cloud-native reservation systems that support mission-critical business operations generating significant company revenue. You will collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to evolve and extend microservices, improve engineering best practices, and deliver resilient and extensible booking solutions.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- Extensive experience in software development and leading engineering teams
- Proven experience delivering and operating complex distributed backend systems
- Strong knowledge of system design, API design, data modeling, and operational best practices
- Hands-on technical skills in modern programming languages and cloud-based microservices
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional efforts aligning with product and business goals
- Familiarity with AI/ML integration in software development life cycles
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field or equivalent experience
- Extensive professional software development experience with leadership of teams delivering complex distributed backend systems
- Proven track record in end-to-end delivery and operations of critical services including system design and operational excellence
- Strong skills in modern programming languages, microservices architectures, and cloud-native technologies
- Ability to align engineering efforts with business priorities to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions
- Experience leading large-scale transactional systems such as booking or payments platforms
- Demonstrated success shaping technical architecture and domain modeling for complex platforms
- Background in reliability engineering, capacity planning, cost optimization, and data-driven decision-making
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities responsibly into production services
Job Duties
- Lead multiple software engineering teams building and evolving lodging booking platform services
- Define and drive technical vision and roadmap including system design, API design, and data modeling
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices for design, coding, testing, observability, security, and operational readiness
- Partner with product, architecture, and other teams to deliver cross-domain initiatives enabling service reuse
- Build, mentor, and grow a diverse, high-performing engineering organization through coaching and hiring
- Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve booking outcomes
- Contribute hands-on technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle
