The Senior Event Manager role at JW Marriott is a critical position within the Event Management Department, reporting directly to the Vice President of Events and Catering. This role requires varying shifts based on business needs, reflecting the dynamic nature of events within the hospitality industry. The Senior Event Manager oversees all aspects of event management from initial documentation and coordination with the sales team to on-site execution and post-event follow-up. This position acts as the primary on-property contact for event planners after handover, ensuring a seamless flow and exceptional execution throughout the event lifecycle.

This managerial role is responsible for fostering collaboration across hotel departments such as sales, catering, operations, and guest services, guaranteeing high standards of service at every stage. The Senior Event Manager identifies opportunities to enhance event revenue through strategic upselling and upgrades while upholding a superior client experience. In addition to managing events, this role entails mentoring Event Coordinators, supporting their professional development and preparing them for future leadership roles within the department. This position may also act as a deputy for the Director of Event Management or Director of Event Planning and Operations when needed.

They actively participate in pre-event and post-event meetings, coordinate room blocks and meeting spaces, and lead efforts to incorporate innovative trends in event design and management techniques. Job Requirements

  • Valid Clark County Health Card
  • Valid Las Vegas Alcohol Awareness Card (TAM Card)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of event management experience
  • Knowledge of safety and government regulations
  • Proficiency in hotel operating systems
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple events and coordinate with various departments
  • Willingness to work varied shifts as business requires
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 15 lbs
  • Compliance with all company policies and safety guidelines including chemical handling

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of event management experience
  • Proven sales acumen with ability to strategically up sell products and services
  • Strong knowledge of menu planning, food presentation standards, banquet and event service operations
  • Ability to manage guest room blocks and meeting space inventories
  • Broad understanding of facility management including sanitation, maintenance, operational workflows
  • Exceptional customer relationship management and client development skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of hotel operations and impact on event services
  • Familiarity with event technology products, services, and vendor coordination
  • Proficiency in contract management including legal considerations and compliance
  • Strong financial management skills including interpreting P and L statements, budgeting, forecasting, labor scheduling
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities with service-oriented mindset
  • Strong interpersonal skills for customer and associate relations
  • Effective presentation and public speaking skills
  • Highly organized with strong time management and multitasking abilities
  • Proficient in standard office software and hotel operating systems
  • Strong decision making and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of relevant governmental regulations and safety standards such as OSHA, EPA, ADA, CFC, NFPA

Job Duties

  • Coordinates and communicates verbally and in writing with customer regarding event details
  • Acts as liaison between field sales person and customer throughout the event process
  • Oversees customer experiences from file turnover through post event phase until turnover back to sales
  • Proactively identifies operational challenges and works with hotel staff and customer to solve these challenges
  • Leads pre event and post event meetings for assigned groups
  • Facilitates various meetings such as Banquet Event Order meeting and block review
  • Manages group room blocks and meeting space for assigned groups
  • Greets customer during event phase and hands off to Event Operations team
  • Adheres to all standards, policies, and procedures such as PPM, Core Deliverables, SOPs
  • Integrates current trends in event management and event design
  • Sets a positive example for guest relations
  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback and handles guest complaints
  • Empowers associates to provide excellent customer service
  • Observes service behaviors and provides feedback to improve service performance
  • Conducts pre and post event meetings as required
  • Participates in development and implementation of corrective action to address service challenges
  • Reviews comment cards and guest satisfaction results with associates
  • Emphasizes guest satisfaction in departmental meetings
  • Effectively up sells products and services throughout event process
  • Effectively manages customer budgets to maximize revenue
  • Participates in VIP sites and meetings assistance
  • Manages revenue and profitability associated with events
  • Accurately forecasts group sleeping rooms and event revenue
