Custodians are responsible for a range of duties including sweeping, dusting, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; maintaining and sanitizing restrooms; restocking paper products; and managing waste disposal. In addition to these essential daily tasks, custodians may be required to rearrange furniture, shovel snow from sidewalks and doorways during winter months, and ensure that conference rooms and other spaces are accessible and secure.

Job Requirements

  • Six months custodial or housekeeping experience
  • ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • customer service skills
  • ability to safely and accurately use assorted chemicals and cleaning appliances
  • knowledge of floor care and cleaning procedures
  • valid Oklahoma driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date
  • ability to lift and carry loads up to 100 lbs
  • ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
  • ability to perform repetitive motions involving arms
  • ability to stoop and bend frequently
  • exposure to odors and disagreeable tasks or conditions
  • exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • ability to climb stairs
  • willingness to work weekends, overtime, and emergencies
  • ability to remain on campus overnight during emergencies

Job Duties

  • Cleans, sweeps, and dusts furniture and equipment
  • collects and disposes of wastepaper and refuse
  • mops, sweeps, waxes and polishes floors
  • maintains and sanitizes lavatories and rest rooms
  • restocks lavatories and rest room paper products
  • locks and unlocks offices, classrooms, and conference areas in order to clean
  • contacts with others are of a routine nature
  • vacuums carpeted areas where applicable
  • rearranges furniture to original positions in lounges and common areas
  • may shovel snow from doorways and sidewalks
  • performs various duties as needed in order to successfully fulfill the function of the position
