Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of similar work experience in production cooking
  • Ability to operate all required commercial kitchen equipment
  • Ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to perform math calculations regarding recipe weights and amounts
  • Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass required certification tests
  • Ability to perform tasks within limited time frames
  • Ability to follow production and cleaning schedules
  • Ability to use chemicals safely
  • Food handler's card obtained within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services members
  • Possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card if working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
  • Signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of experience in institutional food production
  • Solid understanding of cooking principles and modified diets
  • Skills in hot food production and commercial kitchen equipment use
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to perform math calculations for recipe weights and food amounts
  • Knowledge of food handling regulations and certification

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items according to standardized recipes
  • Adjust recipe quantities for correct yields
  • Plan food production timing and quantities based on daily orders and menu sheets
  • Determine menu substitutions in event of shortages and consult dietician for special diets
  • Minimize food waste through appropriate planning and tracking
  • Check and log food and equipment temperatures
  • Maintain par levels of food and supplies, order and restock items, rotate stocks
  • Keep work areas clean and orderly, report equipment repairs
  • Receive and check deliveries from vendors
  • Provide leadership and knowledge in cooking and food preparation to kitchen staff
  • Work under general supervision with inter-department responsibility
