As a Sr. Cook at Corewell Health, you have the unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by preparing and overseeing the creation of nutritious and delicious meals for patients and guests in a health care environment. This role is essential to the success of the Nutrition Services department, as it involves menu development, recipe creation, and direct supervision of food preparation for various service areas including restaurants, room service, and grab-and-go markets. The Sr. Cook is responsible for maintaining high standards of food quality and safety while adhering to the daily production schedule to ensure timely and efficient service.

In addition to hands-on cooking, the Sr. Cook plays a key leadership role by training and evaluating food prep staff to foster their professional growth and enhance overall team performance. The position requires keen organizational skills to manage complex recipes and coordinate food production, especially in the absence of the Supervisor. Responsibilities also include assisting with purchasing and inventory management by preparing purchase orders and helping plan menus across all Nutrition Services operations. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for culinary excellence combined with a commitment to the well-being of patients and the broader community.

This full-time position is based at the Blodgett Hospital location in Grand Rapids, with work hours scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on variable days, including every other weekend. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant experience in related field
  • CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager
  • Vocational/technical courses in food preparation
  • 2 years of relevant experience food preparation in a health care facility
  • 1 year of relevant experience supervisory

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager, CFP - ANSI National Accreditation Board ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 Days
  • Vocational/technical courses in food preparation

Job Duties

  • Assumes total responsibility for all food production in absence of the Supervisor
  • Organizes and directs the preparation of complex recipes
  • Assists in planning and documenting menus for all areas of the Nutrition Services department
  • Ensures daily production schedule is completed and adhered to
  • Assists in training, orientation and evaluation of employees
  • Prepares purchase order for the buyer, as appropriate
  • Develops new recipes
  • Assists supervisor in overseeing areas of operations assigned
  • Monitors employees to ensure policies/procedures are being adhered to
  • Addresses employees not following job requirements or proper policy/procedures
