Job Description

Marriott Marquis Washington DC is a premier luxury hotel located in the heart of Washington, District of Columbia. Situated at 901 Massachusetts Ave NW, the hotel is renowned for its exceptional hospitality, exquisite event spaces, and a commitment to delivering outstanding guest experiences. As part of the globally recognized Marriott International family, the Marriott Marquis offers an upscale environment where both guests and associates are valued and supported. The establishment prides itself on fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace that promotes growth, development, and opportunity for all its team members. Marriott Marquis Washington DC operates within the robust hospitality sector, catering to both local and international clientele, with a focus on delivering impeccable service through its dedicated staff and sophisticated amenities.

The role being offered is a full-time Management position within the Sales and Marketing category, specifically focusing on catering sales. This position is based on-site at the Marriott Marquis in Washington DC and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $41.35 to $54.81, with the added opportunity of bonus eligibility. The successful candidate will handle complex social and local corporate catering opportunities that exceed standard sales office parameters, such as events with over 150 covers. This role extends beyond basic sales functions to include day-to-day supervision of on-property catering sales associates, ensuring seamless operations from contract negotiation through to event execution.

The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for contracting and closing local catering and social business, verifying that all business is properly handed over and delivered in a timely manner to guarantee quality service standards. A key part of the role involves actively up-selling each business opportunity to maximize revenue, as well as implementing the Marriott brand’s service strategy and initiatives throughout every stage of the sales process. This position demands a proactive approach to achieving catering revenue goals by understanding market trends, competitor strengths and weaknesses, and local economic factors to leverage strategic sales efforts effectively.

As a leader within the sales team, the Catering Sales Manager collaborates closely with both on-property and off-property sales channels including the Sales Office, Area Sales, and Enterprise Sales Team. This collaboration ensures coordinated sales efforts that complement rather than overlap. The role also entails developing and managing budgets and forecasts related to catering sales revenue and operations. Creative thinking is encouraged, particularly in designing and selling innovative catered events and menus that appeal to a diverse customer base while maximizing profitability.

In addition to sales and managerial duties, the role requires maintaining strong relationships with internal teams such as kitchen and operations staff, as well as external stakeholders like vendors, catering associations, and the local community. Exceptional customer service skills are essential to deliver a seamless event experience that fosters customer loyalty. The Catering Sales Manager is expected to uphold Marriott’s customer service and brand standards, ensuring every event reflects the highest level of service excellence.

Marriott Marquis Washington DC is committed to non-discrimination and actively promotes an environment of acceptance and inclusion where cultural diversity is celebrated. This role offers an opportunity to be part of a team that values innovation, genuine hospitality, and the ongoing development of associates within one of the world’s most respected hospitality brands. Joining the Marriott Marquis means entering a community where your best work can flourish, your purpose can begin, and you can become the best version of yourself.
