As one of the world’s leading research universities, it embodies a culture of curiosity and progress, continuously pushing boundaries to transform ideas into impactful enterprises. The university is deeply rooted in its guiding principle of Meliora, meaning 'Ever Better,' which motivates its members to strive for excellence in both their professional and personal endeavors. This culture of inclusivity and respect fosters an environment where all members of the community feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
As part of the University of Rochester's Dining Services, the Douglass Dining/Auxiliary Operations department plays a crucial role in delivering an exceptional dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The team is committed to upholding the university's core values of equity, leadership, integrity, openness, respect, and accountability while providing excellent food service in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
This part-time Food Service Worker position involves serving meals and beverages according to established procedures, ensuring that guests enjoy a satisfying and pleasant dining experience. With scheduled weekly hours of 27.5, this role offers flexibility while providing competitive pay ranging from $18.39 to $24.95 per hour, based on the collective bargaining agreement. The Food Service Worker is responsible for setting up tables neatly with clean linens and silverware, assisting guests by filling water glasses and pouring beverages, taking accurate meal orders, explaining menu items and specials, and promptly clearing and resetting tables to maintain a clean dining environment. Attention to detail and excellent customer service skills are essential, as the server also presents checks for signature or payment and ensures all transactions are accurately itemized.
This position requires no direct supervision and does not involve the use of specialized machinery or equipment, making it an ideal opportunity for individuals looking to work in a community-focused environment with a supportive team. The role demands courteous interaction with guests, attention to cleanliness, punctuality, and the ability to follow established dining service protocols.
Joining the University of Rochester means becoming part of a forward-thinking institution dedicated to learning, discovery, healing, creation, and making a positive global impact. This Food Service Worker opportunity provides a gateway to contribute to that mission by enhancing the day-to-day dining experience on campus while embracing the university’s core values and inclusive culture. Candidates who bring enthusiasm, professionalism, and a commitment to the university’s high standards will find this role rewarding both personally and professionally. Whether you are looking to gain experience in food service, support the vibrant campus community, or align yourself with a respected academic institution, this position offers meaningful work within a dynamic environment committed to continual improvement and mutual respect.
