Job Description
Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, located in Chula Vista, California, is a premier hospitality venue that combines the luxury of a resort with the versatility of a world-class convention center. This destination caters to guests looking for exceptional experiences, including business meetings, conferences, special events, and leisure activities. The resort is part of the larger Gaylord Hotels portfolio, which operates under Marriott International. Marriott International is a global leader in hospitality, known for delivering distinguished guest service and fostering inclusive, diverse workplaces with opportunities for career advancement.
The role offered is a seasonal, full-time position as a Special Events Coordinator within the resort’s Experiences of Pleasure division. This role is active from May 19th to August 16th, 2026, and offers a competitive hourly wage of $28.00. The position is non-management, meaning the coordinator will work under the direction of the Special Events manager and assistant managers to help ensure successful event operations.
The Special Events Coordinator plays a critical role in planning and executing special events such as ICE!, Best of Florida Christmas, and SummerFest. This includes coordinating all operational aspects like lighting, audiovisual elements, cleanliness, system operations, and addressing any aesthetic issues to uphold the resort’s high standards. The coordinator is responsible for assisting in training employees working on special events, learning and operating various event software systems for ticketing, retail sales, inventory, and space utilization, and resolving any financial or inventory discrepancies.
This position requires a keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting courteously with guests and team members. The coordinator ensures that all company policies and procedures are followed, promotes a safe working environment by reporting accidents or hazards, and protects company property and confidential information.
Working at Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center means joining a vibrant team known as the STARs, who embody the brand’s commitment to heartfelt and thoughtful guest service. STARs are creative, entrepreneurial employees dedicated to providing memorable experiences for every guest. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that values inclusivity, diversity, and career growth. Employees enjoy a supportive environment where new ideas, technologies, and processes are encouraged to increase productivity, safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
The job requires physical stamina to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods and to move or lift objects up to 25 pounds. The coordinator must speak clearly and professionally, answer telephones with proper etiquette, foster positive working relationships, and contribute to the achievement of common goals. This comprehensive, hands-on role in the special events department offers valuable experience and the chance to be a vital part of large-scale, high-profile events within a world-class hospitality setting. Candidates who excel in this position can expect to develop their skills and potentially advance within the Marriott International family, which values diverse backgrounds and equal opportunity for all employees.
