Job Description
Douglas County Libraries (DCL) is a vibrant public library system that serves the residents of Douglas County, Colorado. As a dedicated community resource, DCL provides access to a wealth of information, educational programs, and cultural events designed to enrich the lives of people of all ages. The library system is committed to fostering a welcoming environment that encourages continual personal growth and authentic connections among its patrons and staff alike. Known for its extensive collections and innovative programming, DCL plays a crucial role in supporting literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement throughout the county.
The Seasonal Special Events Aide position at Douglas County Libraries offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service, event coordination, and community outreach to contribute to the library’s success. This part-time, seasonal role typically involves working approximately 19 hours per week, with a variable schedule tailored to the needs of summer and winter programming. The position pays between $15.34 and $19.13 per hour and will continue through the seasonal periods or until the position is filled.
Reporting to the Special Events Supervisor, the aide is an essential member of the Special Events Team. Their primary responsibility is to support the setup, execution, and cleanup of key library events, ensuring every occasion runs smoothly and leaves a lasting positive impression on attendees. These events include community gatherings, educational workshops, and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing public awareness of the library’s programs and services.
In this role, the Seasonal Special Events Aide acts as a public ambassador for DCL, employing excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor to connect with event participants and community members. The aide manages logistical aspects such as event registration, vendor coordination, and on-site support to maximize visibility and attendance at both on-site and off-site events. Building strong relationships with vendors, volunteers, and staff is critical to fostering a collaborative spirit and successful outcomes.
Additionally, the aide contributes to administrative tasks that support the broader events program. These include data entry, preparing marketing materials, and helping to maintain effective communication with supervisors to ensure all event planning and execution run smoothly. The aide is also expected to engage with cutting-edge library technologies and adhere to organizational policies and procedures, participating actively in performance feedback processes.
Physically, the role requires stamina and mobility as it involves setting up and tearing down event spaces, transporting materials weighing up to 40 pounds, and working at computer stations for extended periods. Flexibility to attend events at various locations and times throughout the week is necessary, as is reliable transportation throughout Douglas County.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy a dynamic, social working environment, have a passion for community service, and seek to develop skills in event management and public engagement. Being part of DCL means joining a team dedicated to welcoming everyone, fostering inclusive experiences, and making a meaningful impact in the community through library services and special events.
