The role of Seasonal Oyster Shucker/Barback at Beauport Hospitality Group is a pivotal position that contributes significantly to the overall guest experience, especially at the oyster bar. This seasonal, full-time position offers an hourly wage of $18 plus tips, with total compensation typically ranging between $18 and $19 per hour. The primary responsibility is to ensure the oyster bar is thoroughly prepared based on established procedures while maintaining a clean and organized bar area. The Oyster Shucker must efficiently shuck oysters and clams, prepare seafood and garnishes, and assist bar staff with restocking, cleaning, and other duties as needed. The position demands a positive attitude and good guest interaction skills, as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Candidates should expect a fast-paced environment requiring physical stamina, as tasks include standing for up to eight hours, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and working in varying weather conditions when applicable. The role also involves following recipes and plating requirements set by the executive chef, mixing sauces, keeping the bar stocked, clearing tables, and practicing cleanliness and safety at all times. Teamwork is essential, with active participation in staff meetings and offering assistance to colleagues to promote a collaborative work environment. Job Duties

  • Shucks fresh oysters or clams with shucking knife
  • cleans and prepares shellfish and other seafood for serving to customers
  • mix sauces such as ketchup, horseradish, and lemon juice
  • ensure oyster bar is properly prepared based on established procedures
  • assist bar staff with filling ice, stocking, emptying trash
  • follow established recipes and plating requirements
  • provide fast, accurate shucking of oysters
  • restock all items through each shift
  • set up, clean, and prepare bar area for the start of business
  • stock garnishes, ice, mixers, and glassware
  • prepare garnishes for drinks and replenish snacks
  • maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner
  • clear and reset tables in the bar area as necessary
  • maintain cleanliness in all bar areas including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, and storage area
  • restock and replenish bar inventory as directed by bartender or bar manager
  • practice cleanliness and safety in all bar and liquor storage areas
  • transport dirty tableware to dishwashing area
  • participate in daily staff and training meetings
  • assist team members to promote teamwork environment
