The Line Cook position at The Downs Racetrack and Casino is a seasonal, full-time role designed for individuals passionate about culinary arts and delivering top-quality food preparation. The incumbent will be responsible for accurately and efficiently cooking a variety of food items, including meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other products, ensuring each dish meets the standards set by the Executive Chef. This position requires hands-on involvement in prepping and portioning food before cooking, expertly plating and garnishing dishes, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The Line Cook helps uphold the culinary reputation of The Downs by strictly adhering to food safety regulations and the established department protocols. Shifts for this role include both day and evening 8-hour time blocks, depending on operational needs. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Two years of recent equivalent cooking experience highly preferred
  • Ability to work full-time day or evening shifts
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Commitment to food safety and hygiene standards

  • Knowledge of cooking methods and food safety practices

Job Duties

  • Cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other food products accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare and portion food products prior to cooking
  • Plate and garnish cooked items according to established standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely food service
  • Follow recipes and instructions provided by the Executive Chef
