They embrace a culture of growth by celebrating successes and using challenges as opportunities to improve and innovate.
The Seasonal Class D Driver role at Northern Illinois Food Bank is a vital seasonal position that directly supports the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This program ensures that children in underserved communities have access to nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session. The SFSP Driver is responsible for the safe, timely transportation and delivery of meals to designated youth sites throughout Northern Illinois. This role involves loading food items into delivery vehicles in an organized manner by site and route while maintaining proper food safety standards. The driver collaborates with site staff to confirm accurate meal counts for each delivery and provides excellent customer service to both program participants and partner agencies.
Typically working 20 to 30 hours per week from Monday through Friday, with early morning start times, this part-time seasonal position runs from May 26 through August 15, 2026, and is based out of the Northwest Suburban Center in Rockford. The position offers a competitive pay rate of $18.40 per hour, highlighting the organization’s commitment to recognizing the valuable contributions of its team members.
In addition to fulfilling daily delivery responsibilities, the Seasonal Class D Driver maintains vehicle cleanliness, ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, and reports any maintenance issues promptly. The role also includes assisting with other transportation-related functions such as Food Recovery and agency deliveries as needed. The driver is expected to uphold safety protocols and demonstrate professionalism when communicating with site personnel and the broader team. Attendance and punctuality are critical, as timely meal deliveries are essential to the program’s success.
Joining Northern Illinois Food Bank as a Seasonal Class D Driver offers more than just a job; it offers the chance to be part of an inspired team dedicated to creating lasting change in their community. Employees enjoy a flexible work environment, growth opportunities through professional development, and an inclusive culture that values equity and belonging.
