With flexible hours amounting to 12 to 16 per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays, this position provides an opportunity for culinary professionals to share their craft while contributing to a brand dedicated to culinary excellence and community connection.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment
  • Degree in culinary arts preferred but not required
  • 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience required
  • Valid Food Manager Certification required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates and customers
  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours
  • Ability to move about the store and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to safely work in a varied kitchen environment with allergens and hot surfaces
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to operate computers and POS systems

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment
  • Degree in culinary arts preferred but not required with proven technical proficiency
  • 1-2 years of kitchen operations experience
  • Valid Food Manager Certification
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Passion for community engagement and customer service excellence

Job Duties

  • Represent Sur La Table's brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty
  • Deliver exceptional in-store culinary experiences focused on pastry and baking classes following provided recipes and game plans
  • Communicate technical concepts and advanced pastry skills clearly and encouragingly
  • Stay current on products by engaging in training and independent learning
  • Drive sales by upholding kitchen standards and encouraging class sign-ups and retail purchases
  • Deliver class revenue goals by ensuring high enrollment and positive guest feedback
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down classes including mise en place, ingredient prep, and cleaning
  • Clean and sanitize dishes and equipment promptly
  • Restock, organize, and maintain kitchen supplies and tools
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, health codes, and sanitation regulations
  • Handle tools and kitchen equipment to maintain safety and efficiency
  • Maintain accurate inventory and control culinary expenses
  • Address store safety, cleanliness, and maintenance needs promptly
  • Adhere to wage and hour laws and company policies
  • Model consistent adherence to company policies and SOPs
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with associates and customers
  • Remain standing for extended periods during classes
  • Move about the store to engage customers and manage merchandise
  • Use hands for baking demonstrations and operations
  • Lift and move merchandise up to 50 lbs
  • Operate computers, POS systems, and related equipment
  • Maintain flexible attendance and scheduling based on business needs
  • Work safely in a variable kitchen environment including around open flames and allergens
