Job Description

This job opportunity is offered by a hospitality establishment specializing in beverage service, likely a bar or restaurant, seeking to hire a seasonal, part-time Barback to support bartenders and cocktail servers. This role is crucial in ensuring seamless bar operations by maintaining adequate supplies such as garnish, glassware, ice, liquor, and other necessary items at the assigned work station. The position is part-time and seasonal, primarily during night and evening shifts, catering to the dynamic environment of a busy nightlife scene or restaurant bar. The work location is in-person, emphasizing the need for hands-on assistance in a fast-paced setting where customer satisfaction and service efficiency are top priorities.

The Barback plays a vital role in the smooth functioning of the bar by replenishing stock, assisting with the preparation of garnishes, ensuring cleanliness, and helping maintain the bar's operational readiness throughout a shift. By retrieving orders from the storeroom, visually verifying stock accuracy alongside storeroom personnel, and supporting bartenders in stock maintenance, the Barback ensures that drinks are served promptly and efficiently without delay due to missing supplies. This careful attention to detail contributes to an elevated customer experience, which directly impacts the establishment's reputation and sales.

In addition to stock management, the Barback is responsible for handling various cleaning duties such as washing glassware, emptying garbage, wiping down surfaces, cleaning beer drains, and maintaining floor cleanliness. These tasks demand physical stamina and a commitment to hygiene, reflecting the establishment's standards for safety and customer service.

The role also involves preparation of perishable garnishes including cutting, slicing, and peeling fruits, as well as mixing and pouring juice in sufficient quantities based on projected business needs. This requires some knowledge of bar inventory, timing, and presentation standards. The maintenance and routine handling of heavy kegs, changing bar mats, and attention to detail in setup and cleanliness throughout shifts further demonstrate the active and physically engaging nature of the job.

Working in this role requires at least one year of bartending or barback experience and possession or the ability to obtain a New Mexico Alcohol Server Permit. The candidate must be at least 21 years old, adhering to legal drinking age regulations. Preferred educational attainment is a high school diploma or equivalent. The environment is typically indoors with exposure to second-hand smoke, moderate to high noise levels, and bright lighting conditions. Physical requirements include standing and walking during the entire shift across large work areas and lifting weights up to 100 pounds, indicating a need for good physical fitness and endurance.

This role offers an opportunity for individuals eager to gain or continue experience in the hospitality and beverage industry, providing foundational skills that can lead to career advancement within bartending or other service roles. The position entails working night and evening shifts, aligning with the active hours of bars and nightlife venues. The part-time, seasonal nature provides flexibility for students, individuals seeking supplemental income, or those interested in seasonal work during busier times of the year. The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a proactive attitude, with a focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and operational readiness.

Overall, this job is ideal for candidates looking to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused, and physically active environment where their contributions directly support the efficiency and satisfaction of bar service operations. The experience gained here can serve as a stepping stone within the hospitality industry, offering exposure to bar management, customer interaction, and operational logistics essential for success in future hospitality roles.
