Job Description

Three Rivers Park District is a natural resources-based park system that manages over 27,000 acres of parks and trails in the Twin Cities area, Minnesota. Known for its dedication to providing high-quality recreational opportunities and well-maintained facilities, the park district serves millions of visitors annually, highlighting the importance of preserving Minnesota's natural beauty while promoting community engagement and active lifestyles. The organization employs a diverse team of full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff members who contribute to maintaining and enhancing the park experience for residents and tourists alike. The park district's commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in its proactive programs aimed at protecting water quality and native ecosystems, combating invasive species, and fostering educational outreach about conservation practices.

The Seasonal AIS Watercraft Decontamination Specialist position at Baker Park Reserve in Maple Plain, MN, is a vital role within the Three Rivers Park District team. This seasonal role focuses on safeguarding Minnesota's waters from the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS) by educating the public and providing decontamination services at public water access sites. The specialist's primary responsibility is to inform watercraft users about the ecological dangers posed by invasive species, conduct brief surveys, inspect watercraft, and offer voluntary decontamination services using high-pressure hot water systems. This helps prevent the spread of harmful aquatic organisms that can disrupt local ecosystems, damage natural resources, and impact recreational water use.

Beyond environmental protection, this role requires excellent customer service skills as the specialist will interact directly with park guests, ensuring a friendly, efficient, and safe operation. Specialists are tasked with maintaining clean work areas while contributing to a positive park experience. The position pays between $16.50 and $18.00 per hour and entails seasonal employment beginning in late spring 2026, with onboarding conducted on a rolling basis. The job offers a unique opportunity to work outdoors in a picturesque natural setting, providing meaningful community service while supporting ecological health.

Employees in this position receive a free Recreation Activity Pass, granting access to various discounted or complimentary park programs and services. This not only encourages active participation in the park's recreational offerings but also highlights the district's dedication to employee well-being and community integration. Three Rivers Park District maintains a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute authentically. The district values equal employment opportunity and strives to accommodate special needs and disabilities to ensure accessible employment opportunities for all individuals.
