This commitment to public service, along with a supportive work environment, makes the State of Indiana a fulfilling place to build a career.
One of the notable agencies within the State of Indiana is the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD), which serves as an accredited educational institution dedicated to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. The ISD provides education and support to approximately 342 students from nursery school through high school. Around 60 percent of these students reside on campus during the academic year, where they benefit from a full range of social, athletic, and extracurricular activities. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana as well as the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD), underscoring its commitment to high educational standards and specialized services.
The Indiana School Housekeeper position plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the school environment. This role is essential to ensuring that public, academic, and administrative areas are clean, safe, and free of debris for both students and staff. The housekeeper works closely with the facilities team to uphold sanitation standards and maintain an organized, welcoming campus atmosphere. Duties involve routine cleaning such as mopping, waxing, dusting, window washing, and restroom upkeep. The role also includes managing supplies, reporting facility needs, and occasionally assisting with light grounds work during public events.
The work schedule is typically Monday to Friday, with shifts arranged by the supervisor, and occasional weekend work for special events. There are opportunities for overtime to cover staff absences or extra event support. The position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $26,312 but may be adjusted based on education and experience. Notably, American Sign Language (ASL) is not a requirement for this position, making it accessible to candidates without ASL skills.
This role is not only about cleaning — it is a vital contributor to the health and safety of the school community, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth. The Indiana School for the Deaf values employees who can follow written and verbal instructions diligently, communicate effectively, and demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance. The opportunity also exists for the housekeeper to take on supervisory responsibilities depending on agency needs, providing a career growth path within the institution.
The State of Indiana offers substantial benefits to its full-time employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, wellness programs, paid leave, pension plans, and various other incentives like education reimbursement and referral bonuses. These benefits ensure that employees are supported both professionally and personally, making a career with the State of Indiana not just a job but a long-term, rewarding vocation.
