With more than 100,000 team members and over 350 offices across the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and other international locations, ABM is a trusted partner in facilities management for diverse industries such as commercial office buildings, universities, airports, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and entertainment venues. At its core, ABM is driven by a commitment to creating cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments.
The role of the School Custodian is integral to maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy educational environment in K-12 schools as well as college or university campuses. This position is ideal for individuals who are either entering the workforce for the first time or returning to work with limited previous experience and education. As a School Custodian at ABM, you will be responsible for executing a wide range of cleaning and maintenance duties in assigned areas including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways. The position offers on-the-job training, allowing candidates to build skills essential for custodial work while working in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Your daily duties will include sweeping and mopping floors, removing debris and cleaning spills, emptying trash receptacles and recycling bins, and performing routine cleaning tasks such as dusting desks, chairs, furniture, fixtures, and polishing hard surfaces like wood and stainless steel. You will also be responsible for cleaning windows, glass partitions, mirrors, and various hard-to-reach areas. Seasonal outdoor tasks such as sweeping walks, raking leaves, cutting grass, and snow removal may also be part of your responsibilities.
Safety is paramount in this role, and you will be expected to comply with all company, client, and regulatory guidelines concerning the use of cleaning chemicals, power equipment, and security standards. Communication and teamwork are vital as well, since you will coordinate with co-workers, supervisors, and facility managers to report maintenance issues and ensure the maintenance of the building’s operating systems.
ABM values veterans and actively encourages applicants with military experience to apply. The company supports career development through world-class training programs and provides a military-friendly workplace. As part of ABM’s frontline team, custodians gain valuable experience in facility maintenance with prospects for career advancement. ABM offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and more, emphasizing employee well-being and stability.
Working as a custodian at ABM also means contributing to a company that prides itself on diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity employment. ABM actively provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities and is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify program, confirming employee eligibility to work. This is a reliable employment opportunity for individuals seeking steady work, training, and growth in a reputable company dedicated to excellent facility management and customer service.
