Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in food preparation or cooking preferred
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • ability to follow standardized recipes and adjust quantities
  • basic math skills for measuring and portioning
  • good communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to train and supervise helpers
  • familiarity with USDA food service regulations
  • physical ability to perform kitchen duties including lifting and standing for long periods

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate meal preparation with food service employees
  • review food production records and adjust cooking plans accordingly
  • accurately weigh and measure ingredients following standardized recipes
  • prepare and cook a variety of foods including sandwiches, breakfast meals, and main courses
  • assemble salads and cook simple starches and vegetables
  • assist in preparation of principal lunch and supplementary meals
  • serve students and staff and replenish food supplies
  • portion and pack menu items for satellite meals
  • maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work and dining areas
  • clean and sanitize kitchen equipment after use
  • label, store, and dispose of leftover food properly
  • document production records and report leftovers
  • receive and store provisions, document product temperatures, and report discrepancies
  • assist with inventory and record keeping
  • direct and instruct cafeteria helpers and assist in training new staff
  • supervise serving operations at satellite schools when needed
  • participate in staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training
  • achieve annual USDA training requirements
