The School Bus Safety Trainer position in Boston, MA, is a pivotal role within Transdev’s Safety and Training department. This full-time position offers a union-based pay rate of $37.26 per hour, subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The role centers on developing and delivering thorough classroom and behind-the-wheel training programs to school bus drivers, ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational knowledge. Trainers work extensively on programs such as the Professional Operator Development Program, remedial training, new equipment familiarization, and ongoing safety meetings. Collaboration with the Director and Manager of Safety and Training is essential to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and corporate policies.

This role demands expertise in handling both classroom instruction and direct vehicle training. The School Bus Safety Trainer ensures all trainees are equipped with the skills needed to operate school buses safely and efficiently according to customer and regulatory expectations. Trainers monitor the progress of trainees, maintain accurate training records, and provide coaching based on performance reviews, including feedback from video-recorded driving events. They also support new equipment training initiatives, safety rides, and emergency driving situations if needed. Acting as a resource person, the trainer advises drivers and staff about best practices, safety regulations, and updated training materials.

The position requires individuals to be physically capable around vehicle and fleet operations, including prolonged periods of standing, walking, and the occasional need to lift up to 50 pounds. Flexibility with work shifts, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to handle detailed administrative duties like updating employee records are key to success.
